A Republican lawmaker once hailed by right-wing media as a “hero” of the Afghanistan withdrawal is now facing a scandal that could end his career.
Rep. Cory Mills, a hardline Florida Republican and vocal Trump ally, was allegedly caught with sex workers during an unofficial 2021 mission to rescue Americans from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan — a mission that many now say was more self-promotion than sacrifice.
According to a bombshell report from NOTUS, Mills’ fellow volunteers ditched him mid-mission after witnessing him with sex workers at a hotel in Tbilisi, Georgia, during a stopover on the way to Afghanistan.
Three individuals familiar with the incident told reporters that the group was “furious” — believing Mills’ behavior could jeopardize their covert mission. “He was in the hallway with prostitutes. People were disgusted,” one source said.
Despite being abandoned, Mills later flew into Afghanistan solo, claiming he’d successfully rescued a stranded American woman and her three children — and immediately launched a media tour to slam President Biden’s State Department.
“This is an attempt to save face by the administration for the Americans they left behind,” Mills told Fox News Digital at the time. “They did nothing to expedite this.”
But now, even that story is unraveling.
Mills’ self-proclaimed heroics have long been questioned by veterans who served with him. He received a Bronze Star for his actions in Iraq in 2003 — yet multiple soldiers listed in the award citation say he was never there.
Private First Class Joe Heit, one of the men supposedly saved by Mills, flatly denied the congressman’s account. “He didn’t save my life,” Heit told NOTUS. “I don’t recall him being there either.”
Another veteran said Mills’ claims “feel like political theater more than truth.”
The revelations couldn’t come at a worse time for Mills. Earlier this week, he was publicly berated by fellow Republican Rep. Nancy Mace after she introduced a censure resolution accusing him of campaign finance violations, “stolen valor,” and sexual misconduct.
The confrontation turned into a shouting match on the House floor, with Mace reportedly calling Mills a “disgrace” and a “piece of s–t.”
Mills fired back, telling reporters, “Anything from the P word to you’re a POS to FU to all the—you can fill in the blanks.”
The resolution was ultimately shelved, but the drama highlighted growing fractures within the GOP — and deep discomfort with Mills’ behavior inside his own party.
Compounding the chaos, Mills is currently under a court-ordered protective order after his ex-girlfriend, Lindsey Langston, a 26-year-old state GOP committeewoman and reigning Miss United States, accused him of threatening to release explicit videos and harm future partners.
Langston filed for the order in October, describing Mills as “vindictive and dangerous.” A Florida judge agreed, issuing a restraining order that remains active. Mills denies all allegations.
“He’s trying to spin everything as a political hit job,” one Republican strategist told The Daily Ledger. “But there’s only so much spin you can do when the photos, the court records, and the witnesses all say the same thing.”
For many Democrats, Mills’ downfall encapsulates the moral rot inside Trump’s MAGA movement.
“Republicans spent years calling themselves the party of faith and family,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD). “Now we have one of their own busted with prostitutes on a supposed rescue mission. That says everything about where their values are.”
While the House Ethics Committee continues its investigation, Mills has remained defiant, posting cryptic Bible verses on X and doubling down on his loyalty to President Trump, who has yet to comment on the allegations.
“God knows the truth,” Mills wrote online this week. “So do my voters.”
For now, those voters — and the nation — are left wondering how a man once hailed as a war hero ended up becoming the latest scandal of the Trump era.
