According to a new Harper’s Bazaar profile by journalist Kaitlyn Greenidge, Meghan was meeting the writer inside a friend’s Upper East Side brownstone when the unusual scene unfolded.
“When I enter, the house manager announces, ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex,’ even though we appear to be the only other two people in the house,” Greenidge wrote.
The detail — though tucked inside an otherwise glowing profile — instantly went viral, sparking online chatter about the Duchess’s flair for ceremony.

Critics called the moment “staged” and “awkwardly performative,” especially since the practice of announcing nobles was reserved for crowded events centuries ago — not quiet coffee chats in borrowed real estate.
Observers suspect the greeting wasn’t the house manager’s idea, suggesting Meghan may have orchestrated the scene herself to remind the journalist who she was meeting.
