George W. Bush’s heartfelt eulogy for his longtime vice president was overshadowed by a bizarre fashion blunder that sent social media into a tailspin.
At Dick Cheney’s funeral in Washington, D.C., former President George W. Bush took his seat among America’s political elite — but it wasn’t his words or his presence that caught attention. It was his suit, which onlookers quickly dubbed “comically small.”
Images of the 79-year-old leader seated beside former First Lady Laura Bush showed the ex-president’s pants riding up well above his ankles, exposing bare skin and socks in a way few expected from the famously buttoned-up Texan.

“George Bush’s pants look like they belong to a high schooler,” one X user wrote. Another joked, “He led the free world, but he can’t find a tailor?”
The photos, captured by C-SPAN cameras, were widely shared, with many joking that Bush “looked like he borrowed his grandson’s church outfit.”
Despite the fashion frenzy, Bush delivered one of the most emotional speeches of the day, remembering his former vice president as “a decent, honorable man.”
“Laura and I will remember Dick Cheney for the decent, honorable man that he was,” Bush said, his voice cracking slightly. “History will remember him as among the finest public servants of his generation — a patriot who brought integrity, high intelligence, and seriousness of purpose to every position he held.”
The 43rd president recalled first asking Cheney to help him pick a running mate during the 2000 campaign — only to end up choosing Cheney himself. “I’m still grateful that he was at my side for the eight years that followed,” Bush said.
Dick Cheney, who died on November 3 at the age of 84, was one of the most powerful — and controversial — figures in modern American politics. Serving as vice president from 2001 to 2009, he shaped the Bush administration’s post-9/11 policies and the invasion of Iraq, earning both fierce criticism and lasting admiration.
“Dick was a calm and steady presence in the White House amid great national challenges,” Bush continued. “He held to his convictions and prioritized the freedom and security of the American people.”
Bush concluded his eulogy by extending condolences to Cheney’s widow, Lynne, and daughters Liz and Mary. “We are praying for the Cheney family as they honor a great man,” he said.
Still, it was Bush’s fashion faux pas that had viewers buzzing long after the ceremony ended.
“Why can I see the man’s legs?” another X user commented. “He’s a former president, not a barista at brunch.”
Others speculated the smaller suit may have been intentional — a result of weight loss or a poor tailor. “Maybe he’s shrinking with age, or maybe the dry cleaner struck again,” one person quipped.
Whatever the reason, the moment became one of the most unexpected viral highlights of the otherwise solemn event — a surreal mix of humor and history that only the internet could deliver.
