California Governor Gavin Newsom just turned the White House’s latest “romantic reboot” into a national roast.
It started innocently enough: the official White House X account posted a glossy photo of Donald and Melania Trump walking hand in hand after signing an executive order on foster care reform. The caption read like a Hallmark card, celebrating the couple as “America’s power couple.”
Within hours, Newsom’s team hijacked the moment — and the internet.
The California governor’s press office reposted the photo alongside an older image of Trump smiling next to Jeffrey Epstein. The caption read: “The internet knows who the real power couple is.”
By midnight, Newsom’s post had racked up more than 170,000 likes — quadruple the engagement of the White House original. “This wasn’t just a clapback,” wrote one X user. “It was a public relations funeral.”
The timing couldn’t have been worse for Trump. Just days earlier, more than 20,000 pages of records from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate had been unsealed. Among them: an email from Epstein himself referencing Trump. “I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is Trump,” Epstein allegedly wrote in 2014, mentioning a victim who had “spent hours at my house with him.”
The revelation reignited years of scrutiny over Trump’s relationship with Epstein, who died in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting federal sex trafficking charges.
Trump dismissed the records release as a “hoax” but then urged House Republicans to vote to make them public — a move critics called “performative transparency.”
“It’s a classic Trump deflection,” said political analyst Maria Torres. “He wants to look like he’s not hiding anything, but the optics are terrible. And then his team tries to distract everyone with Melania.”
The First Lady’s reappearance in the West Wing has been raising eyebrows. According to reports, she spent fewer than two weeks at the White House during Trump’s first three months back in office.
“She’s like a solar eclipse — rare, dramatic, and gone before you know it,” one senior aide quipped anonymously.
But this week, the administration flooded social media with photos of the couple smiling, holding hands, and quoting Elvis lyrics. “I can’t help falling in love with you,” one post read, as if scripted for campaign optics. Another called them “America’s power couple.”
The strategy, however, appears to have backfired spectacularly.
“Trying to rebrand Trump through Melania’s mystique while Epstein documents are trending is PR malpractice,” said Democratic strategist Janelle Bryant. “Newsom saw the opening and went for the jugular.”
By Tuesday morning, the online verdict was clear: Newsom won the exchange — and the culture war moment.
Memes flooded in, with users comparing Trump’s “love story” rollout to “damage control gone wrong.” One trending post summarized the mood bluntly: “Melania can’t save him from his past.”
For Newsom, the viral moment was another reminder that, even without running for higher office, he remains one of the Democratic Party’s most effective thorns in Trump’s side.
As one top Democratic donor told Politico: “Every time Trump tries to look presidential, Newsom turns it into a meme.”

Give it a Rest! Newsome and the rest of the Democrats are in my opinion a sad bunch of losers who don’t care about the country only their power and how much corrupt money they can get/ like Biden! If there was a smoking gun against Trump in the Epstein files surely the democrats under Biden would have released it right before the 2024 election. They didn’t because they can’t! There isn’t any! As to Newsome’s 170,000 repostings…. That’s nothing out of 330 million people! Heck Taylor Swift gets more each day!! Further we all know nasty news and bad news travels faster and is more interesting than nice or loving news!
Here’s a good one, Newsome…. How about doing something positive for your citizens? Clean up the streets, cut government, provide job creation incentives etc. But wait that’s not what u do!!!!
