Jimmy Kimmel’s standoff with ABC and Disney has turned into a high-stakes battle that now stretches far beyond late-night television — and straight into the heart of Donald Trump’s campaign against the press.
Sources confirmed that Kimmel sat down with Disney brass in Los Angeles this week to discuss his indefinite suspension, but the meeting ended in a stalemate. According to insiders, Kimmel refused to water down his planned response to the firestorm that erupted after he speculated that Charlie Kirk’s accused assassin might be linked to MAGA extremism.
ABC executives, under pressure from Trump’s FCC chair Brendan Carr, reportedly balked at Kimmel’s defiant statement, which criticized Fox News by name and accused right-wing influencers of deliberately twisting his words. “Disney thought that went too far,” one source told Puck.
Industry insiders say Disney CEO Bob Iger is under enormous pressure. Just last year, he authorized a $16 million settlement in the George Stephanopoulos case, a move critics now say emboldened Trump to come after the company harder.
“Bullies don’t stop when you give them what they want,” one Hollywood executive told me Friday. “And Trump has made it clear he sees ABC, NBC, and all of late-night as his personal enemies list.”
That sentiment is echoed by Puck’s Matthew Belloni, who warned that Iger’s legacy is now on the line: “Trump floated revoking licenses of networks that are ‘against him.’ It’s pretty insane. But ABC opened the door.”
On Thursday, aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters that “97 percent” of television networks are working against him — and suggested their licenses should be stripped.
“They’re licensed. They’re not allowed to do that,” Trump said. “All they do is hit Trump, every night. Maybe their license should be taken away.”
On Truth Social, he cheered Kimmel’s removal and urged NBC to axe Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon next. “Their ratings are horrible,” Trump wrote. “Do it NBC!!!”
NBC insiders admit the chilling effect is real. “I do know Seth has been freaking out over this,” Belloni revealed.
For Kimmel, 57, the question is whether returning to the air is even worth it. He has openly mused about retirement in recent years, and sources say he’s unwilling to tiptoe around Trump’s FCC appointees.
“He’s not going to come back just to be gagged every two weeks,” one Disney insider told me. “If they bring him back, it has to be on his terms.”
Meanwhile, much of Hollywood is rallying behind Kimmel. Actors, writers, and comedians argue that Disney’s decision not only undercuts free expression but also sets a dangerous precedent of bowing to government intimidation.
This isn’t just about one late-night host. By forcing Disney into submission, Trump has signaled he’s ready to target any broadcaster that doesn’t fall in line. With an FCC chair openly threatening networks and the president promising to revoke licenses, the message is clear: dissent will come at a price.
As one longtime ABC producer put it, “We’re not just talking about Jimmy anymore. We’re talking about whether the First Amendment survives another Trump term.”

Licensed airwaves come with restrictions that broadcasters must abide by. They don’t have the same “freedoms” that everyday Americans have on X for instance. This is a fallacy that is conjured up in the news media. They don’t get to lie and then say it is “free speech” for instance. There are consequences to what Jimmy Kimmel has done in twisting the truth as badly as he has done. Jokes, even in bad taste are one thing, outright lies to push an agenda are completely another. When you are slicing and dicing up comments made by people, especially someone who has been m*rd*red, you don’t get a free pass! Sorry, it just isn’t cool! It doesn’t fall into “free speech”, it is in completely poor taste and completely unAmerican!
Trump hates them because they blatantly LIE to us… glad they’ve been STOPPED!
Good riddance Jimmy Kimmel. Tired of your lies.
Really, who cares about Kimmel. He is anti-american, he flat out lies on air to the american people, then doubles down and lies that he did not say it. This idiot should just take the millions he received for lying to the american public about everything. Good riddance baby kimmel
you all realize you could be arrested for what you magas spout here?
juju lies even worse than Kimmel…
It\’s obvious the ABC, NBC, CBS, CNBC networks are extremely biased against Republicans. Additionally these Networks are ripping the fabric of our being with their anti Christian, pro-extremist/hate persona. In this Country USA, the Constitutional rights rule for everyone. Start doing it, and stop the bias and spin. The real news works.
Who cares? Jimmy is not funny. His show is losing big time money. What’s the point of keeping him on air? Is it just to have another radical leftist on air to show that they’re in tune with leftist ideologic.
