Nearly three decades after the brutal murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, her father, John Ramsey, is making a desperate appeal to President Donald Trump to intervene in what he calls a “broken system” that has failed his daughter.

Speaking exclusively at CrimeCon 2025 in Denver on Saturday, John Ramsey slammed the Boulder Police Department for decades of “arrogance” and “incompetence” in the investigation. He’s now urging President Trump to pressure Colorado authorities to finally allow cutting-edge DNA technology to be used on critical evidence.

“I need to get Donald Trump on them,” Ramsey said. “He’ll stir things up one way or the other. Somehow, we’ve got to get them to do this.”

Ramsey believes investigative genetic genealogy testing — the same tool that helped capture the Golden State Killer — could finally unmask JonBenét’s killer. But Colorado authorities have been slow to act.

“Money shouldn’t be a restriction here,” Ramsey told Fox News Digital. “This is a no-brainer. We have the technology. We have the evidence. What we don’t have is the will.”

President Trump, who has previously intervened in high-profile cases, has not yet responded directly. But his record suggests he could act:

  • In 2022, Trump publicly weighed in on the Bryan Kohberger plea deal in the University of Idaho murders, demanding more answers before sentencing.
  • In 2019, he personally called for the release of rapper A$AP Rocky from a Swedish jail.

“President Trump understands when justice isn’t served,” Ramsey said. “This is bigger than politics. This is about a murdered little girl.”

JonBenét Ramsey was reported missing on December 26, 1996, after her mother, Patsy Ramsey, discovered a ransom note demanding $118,000. Hours later, John Ramsey found his daughter’s lifeless body in the basement of their Boulder, Colorado home.

An autopsy revealed she had been strangled and struck on the head.

The crime stunned the nation and became one of America’s most infamous cold cases. Yet, nearly 29 years later, no one has been charged.

Ramsey has long accused Boulder police of mishandling the investigation from the start.

“Arrogance, ego, inexperience — it was a perfect storm of failure,” he said.

The department insists otherwise. In a statement last year, Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn promised the case remains “a top priority.”

“We are committed to following every lead and working with DNA experts nationwide until this tragic case is solved,” Redfearn said in November 2024.

But Ramsey isn’t convinced. He claims officials have resisted allowing independent labs to use modern DNA testing, despite breakthroughs in other cold cases.

On Saturday, Ramsey announced a new petition urging Colorado lawmakers to bring state laws in line with the federal Homicide Victims’ Families’ Rights Act, which gives families the right to request independent cold-case reviews.

“I was shocked by how the system works,” Ramsey said. “We’ve got 18,000 police jurisdictions, each one its own little island. If a chief doesn’t want help, nobody can step in. That’s primitive.”

He’s also lobbying Colorado Governor Jared Polis to allow an independent agency to handle the testing, bypassing Boulder Police entirely.

Despite decades of frustration, Ramsey refuses to give up.

“We’ve waited long enough. My daughter deserves answers,” he said. “If President Trump can help us get there, then I’m asking him — please — step in.”

For Ramsey, genetic genealogy offers hope where the system has failed. For the nation, JonBenét’s unsolved murder remains an open wound.
