The Biden years are long gone — and under President Donald Trump’s second term, America’s military is back on offense. But one strike this week has ignited a political firestorm — and Vice President JD Vance is fanning the flames.
On Tuesday, a U.S. drone strike obliterated a suspected Venezuelan drug boat in international waters near the Caribbean. Eleven people were killed. None were given a chance to surrender, and no U.S. forces were harmed.
President Trump proudly announced the attack on Truth Social, framing it as part of his administration’s new “zero-tolerance” war on narcotics.
“The strike occurred while the terrorists were at sea in International Waters transporting illegal narcotics, heading to the United States,” Trump wrote. “The strike resulted in 11 terrorists killed in action. No U.S. Forces were harmed in this strike. BEWARE!”
Critics, however, see something darker: an act that may have violated international law.
When a critic on X accused the Trump administration of committing a “war crime,” Vice President JD Vance didn’t back down.
“I don’t give a s**t what you call it,” Vance fired back, in a reply that’s already gone viral.
Vance doubled down hours later, framing the attack as a patriotic duty.
“Killing cartel members who poison our fellow citizens is the highest and best use of our military,” he wrote, pointing to intelligence linking the boat to Venezuela’s notorious Tren de Aragua gang — a sprawling criminal network known for drug trafficking and human smuggling.
Then came another incendiary jab at Democrats: “Democrats: let’s send your kids to die in Russia. Republicans: actually, let’s protect our people from the scum of the earth.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth — who recently reinstated the Pentagon’s Cold War-era nickname, the “Department of War” — declared the strike a victory.
“I’d say we smoked a drug boat, and there’s 11 narcoterrorists at the bottom of the ocean,” Hegseth said during a White House briefing. “Anyone else thinking about doing the same thing should expect the same fate.”
The Pentagon also released drone footage showing the strike, which it claims confirms the boat was carrying narcotics. Venezuelan officials have called the video “fabricated,” accusing the Trump administration of staging an assassination and violating international sovereignty.
This isn’t just about drugs. It’s about Trump’s revived “America First” foreign policy.
The administration has granted the president and defense secretary sweeping authority to authorize targeted killings abroad — even without congressional approval. Legal experts warn this could set dangerous precedents.
“This is extrajudicial killing,” said Dr. Laura Mendelson, an international law professor at Georgetown. “If the U.S. claims the right to execute foreign nationals without trial, other nations may feel justified doing the same to Americans.”
Progressive lawmakers are demanding an investigation, calling the move a “reckless escalation” that risks igniting conflict in the region.
“President Trump thinks he can play judge, jury, and executioner,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said in a statement. “This isn’t protecting Americans — it’s destabilizing the world.”
So far, Trump and Vance are standing firm. But behind the scenes, State Department officials are scrambling to contain diplomatic fallout as Venezuela threatens to bring the case before the International Criminal Court.
For the MAGA base, though, this strike is a rallying cry. Vance’s viral “I don’t give a s**t” moment is being hailed by right-wing influencers as proof that the administration is “fighting for Americans.”
Whether this boosts Trump politically or triggers a new round of global backlash remains to be seen — but one thing is certain: the 2025 White House isn’t playing defense anymore.

Ooooky, first off let’s simply disregard AOC’s “take” until she comes up with an original thought. That’ll be a while.
From a lay person, i.e., me, this strike is way late but very justified, almost to the point of disregarding so-called international “law”, which can be B.S. The U.S. is under attack, not by a foreign force or country, but clearly by drug runners. Why should the U.S. not strike them? Wipe ‘em out, the sooner the better, and so send a pretty clear message to others.
These drug pushers prolly should have been watched until within the limits of some nation and then arrested… except most of the countries in that area can’t be trusted and would prolly have helped them, seized the drugs for their own use, let them go to try again, or sold them for ransom…
Coast Guard/Navy ships move slowly compared to high speed drug boats and planes/helicopters, and take a long time to travel long distances in international waters, likely allowing them to escape. It’s dangerous for planes/helicopters to try and capture/arrest 11 armed men and transport them. There was enough illegal drugs to kill thousands of Americans/our kids…
I can’t believe how people actually think killing the enemy is a bad thing. Again I’m a firm believer they all love what.Trump is doing they just hate that he’s doing it. Here’s a great example. Trump ampaigned on no tax on tips then shortly after Kamala did as well.
Trump followed thru and made it happen. Any praise from the left even though they both campaigned on the same thing? No thanks, no bipartisan praise for getting what but candidates said thet wanted? Hypocrisy at it’s best
