President Donald Trump’s ankles once again drew attention on Tuesday as he sat down for a high-profile meeting at the G7 summit in France.
The 80-year-old president was photographed with his lower legs exposed beneath high-riding pants during a meeting with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, 46, in Évian-les-Bains.
The images quickly raised fresh chatter about Trump’s appearance, including his visibly swollen-looking ankles and left hand.

As Trump spoke with the Qatari leader, he praised the growing cooperation between the U.S. and Qatar. But his voice also appeared to wobble and crack during the meeting, becoming hoarse as the event went on.
Photos from the bilateral meeting showed Trump seated with the emir while several top officials looked on, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
Trump’s ankles have been noticed during several major public appearances, including during his state visit to China and while Britain’s King Charles III was in Washington.
They also drew attention in May when Trump was seen during what the White House described as a “dental appointment” in Florida.
That visit sparked questions from CNN medical analyst Jonathan Reiner, who wrote on X, “There’s been such a lack of candor about the health of the president that even a visit to the dentist raises questions. Maybe he just likes this dentist.”
Trump’s hands have also repeatedly become a focus of public speculation, with images showing discoloration, swelling and what has appeared to be heavy makeup covering parts of them.
The president’s team has insisted nothing is wrong.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle has previously told the Daily Beast, “President Trump is the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in modern American history.”
In May, Trump went to Walter Reed Hospital for his third checkup in 13 months.
In January, Trump told The Wall Street Journal that he had tried wearing compression socks before but “didn’t like them.”
During another moment at Tuesday’s G7 events, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz presented Trump with a German soccer jersey tied to the World Cup, which is being held in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
The jersey featured the name “Trump” on the back, along with the number 47.
As Trump accepted the gift, his hand again appeared swollen and slightly discolored in photos.
His team has previously said the discoloration is due to frequent handshaking and an aspirin regimen.
The G7 summit runs through Wednesday and is being hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East are expected to be among the top issues discussed.
Trump was expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday. Zelensky said on X that his goal at the summit was to “advance diplomacy” and “make Russia end its war” in Ukraine.
Reuters reported that Zelensky offered to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin at the summit, but the Kremlin denied that any official talks were underway.
“There are currently no official channels between Kyiv and Moscow,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.
