Two Texas high school students have been taken into custody after allegedly making violent threats to “shoot up” their school, according to police.
The Schertz Police Department says administrators at Clemens High School contacted a school resource officer on Thursday after learning about disturbing comments made by two male students last week.
During the investigation, authorities say one of the students expressed a desire to “shoot up the school,” while the other suggested he “could provide the weapons.”
A third student, who overheard the threats, immediately reported them to school officials — a move police say may have prevented a potential tragedy. Investigators later obtained video evidence supporting a terroristic threat charge.
Both students were arrested and charged with making terrorist threats, which is considered a third-degree felony in Texas. They were transported to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police praised the student who came forward, releasing a statement that read: “We want to express our gratitude to the student who reported the threats and acknowledge the school administration for their collaborative efforts during this investigation.”
Schertz, located just northeast of San Antonio, is now on high alert following the arrests.
The incident comes just one day after a separate mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, where two young students were killed and 18 others injured before the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
