In yet another bizarre display that has left critics questioning his mental sharpness, President Donald Trump, 79, appeared to forget the name of the Atlantic Ocean during a Tuesday morning call-in interview with Fox & Friends.
While discussing his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, Trump paused mid-sentence and struggled to identify the massive body of water that separates the U.S. from Europe.
“You know, we have an ocean that’s separating us, right? A thing called… an ocean,” Trump said, before adding, “A big, beautiful ocean. And, uh, they don’t — they’re right there.”

The president never clarified which ocean he meant, though most viewers assumed he was referring to the Atlantic.
This isn’t the first time Trump has stumbled over basic geography. Just last week, during a press conference about his Anchorage meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump repeatedly said he was “going to Russia” — even though the summit took place on U.S. soil in Alaska.
“Someone really needs to sit down with him and go over a world map,” a senior Democratic strategist told us. “These aren’t slips you can afford when dealing with global security and foreign policy.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt brushed off questions about the ocean incident, calling them “stupid questions about oceans.”
Trump’s struggles with geography aren’t new. Back in 2016, he famously suggested that Belgium was “a beautiful city,” and in 2019, he confused Alabama with the path of Hurricane Dorian, holding up a doctored weather map to defend himself.
Now, his latest blunder comes at a delicate time in international relations. At the G7 summit in June, Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Allies have grown increasingly frustrated with what they see as Trump’s unpredictable approach to foreign policy and his refusal to fully support Ukraine against Russian aggression.
“Every time he goes off-script, Europe gets nervous,” said a former State Department official. “This isn’t just about forgetting an ocean. It’s about whether the president understands what’s at stake.”
Trump once promised to “end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours” if elected. But nearly eight months into his second term, the fighting continues. Despite claiming that he has “ended six wars,” Trump admitted this one “is not the easiest one.”
Critics argue that his lack of a coherent strategy, combined with constant finger-pointing at Joe Biden, has weakened America’s influence abroad.
During the Fox & Friends interview, Trump again blamed his predecessor:
“Biden gave them $100 billion right up front,” he said. “I don’t give them anything… since I’ve been there, we don’t pay.”
In reality, Trump’s administration has continued Biden’s policy of providing military aid to Ukraine, sending $6.2 billion in weapons during the first half of 2025 alone.
Democrats are already seizing on Trump’s ocean gaffe as another example of a president unfit for the job. Social media exploded with hashtags like #LostAtSea and #OceanGate within hours of the interview.
“The president can’t remember the name of the Atlantic Ocean,” tweeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “But somehow we’re supposed to trust him to negotiate world peace?”
With rising international tensions, faltering promises on Ukraine, and a string of public missteps, Trump’s geographic lapse may seem small — but it underscores a larger concern among critics: whether the 79-year-old president is mentally sharp enough to lead the nation.

This amazing man works almost round the clock for no pay and everything he does that the media can blow out of proportion is printed wall to wall. It is so absurd how the liberal media listens to every word President Trump says just to find one flaw during his speeches. Think of how many times we listened to the previous president and never really understood what he was trying to say even when he had every word printed for him in advance. Never have we had a president who had so many press conferences from the oval office and answered questions, spontaneously, without having to refer to notes written for him in advance. How about the Obama gaffe when he was on the campaign trail in Oregon in 2008 when he said: “It is wonderful to be back in Oregon. Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states. I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii.” Interesting to note that there are 57 Muslim states.
