White House Slams Rock Legend Over Comments

The Oval Office has become the latest battleground in America’s culture wars after rock icon Jack White unleashed a blistering critique of President Donald Trump’s gold-soaked redesign — calling it “a vulgar embarrassment to American history.”

White, the 12-time Grammy winner and former White Stripes frontman, posted photos of the redecorated Oval Office to Instagram on Monday, accusing Trump of turning “The People’s House” into “a professional wrestler’s dressing room.”

“Look at his disgusting taste,” White wrote to his 2.7 million followers. “Would you buy a used car from this conman, let alone give him the nuclear codes? A gold-plated Trump Bible would look perfect up on that mantle — maybe with a pair of Trump shoes on either side.”

Within hours, the post racked up nearly 120,000 likes and ignited a political firestorm.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung quickly lashed out, calling White “a washed-up, has-been loser” who “disrespects the splendor and significance of the Oval Office.”

“Jack White is desperate for attention because his career has stalled,” Cheung told the Daily Beast. “He’s masquerading as an artist but fails to appreciate the grandeur of the president’s vision.”

Trump himself has boasted about hand-picking the Oval Office décor, telling reporters last month: “I picked it all myself. It’s beautiful. Everybody says it’s the best Oval Office we’ve ever had.”

The president’s redesign includes gold-trimmed paintings, gilded cherubs imported from Mar-a-Lago, mirrored walls, and a fireplace topped with decorative urns. Even the drink coasters bear his name — embossed in gold, naturally.

Barbara Res, a former Trump Organization executive who worked alongside Trump for years, wasn’t surprised:

“Donald always used gold to project an illusion of wealth and taste,” Res told USA Today. “He thinks gold equals class. It’s his brand.”

But critics argue that Trump has stripped the Oval Office of its dignity. Historians note that previous presidents — both Republican and Democrat — kept the décor relatively understated as a symbol of national unity.

“This redesign isn’t about America,” historian Paul Farber told NPR. “It’s about Trump branding the presidency like one of his casinos.”

This isn’t the first time White and Trump have clashed. Last year, Trump used White’s iconic hit “Seven Nation Army” in a campaign video without permission, prompting White to threaten legal action.

“Don’t even think about using my music, you fascists,” White fumed in an Instagram post at the time.

The rocker has repeatedly slammed Trump online, once calling him an “obvious fascist and wannabe dictator” and, more recently, a “Nazi clown.”

White’s Oval Office takedown has ignited fierce debate online. Fans flooded his comments with support:

But Trump loyalists weren’t silent either. One commenter called White a “washed-up liberal crybaby,” while another accused him of “hating America.”

Despite the backlash, Jack White’s star power hasn’t dimmed. His latest album, No Name, was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2025 Grammys, and he’s set to headline next month’s CBGB Festival in Brooklyn alongside Iggy Pop and the Sex Pistols.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to lean into the spectacle. He recently replaced the Rose Garden lawn with paving stones — claiming women “kept sinking in their high heels” — and even floated plans to host a UFC fight on the White House grounds next year.
