President Trump, 79, confuses Cabinet member Kristi Noem with pro golfer during Olympics announcement—leaving Democrats asking: who’s really running the country?
In a cringeworthy moment that instantly sparked online ridicule and raised new questions about presidential fitness, President Donald Trump, now 79, publicly forgot the name of his own Secretary of Homeland Security during a White House event on Tuesday.
While announcing members of a new task force for the 2028 Summer Olympics, Trump proudly declared: “Secretary of Homeland Security Cristie Kerr.”
Problem is—Cristie Kerr is a professional golfer. Kristi Noem, the former South Dakota governor and now head of the Department of Homeland Security, was standing just feet behind him at the time.
The mistake was glaring. But rather than correct himself with grace, Trump doubled down.
“Cristie Kerr, do you know who Cristie Kerr is?” he chuckled. “She’s a friend of mine. Great golfer.”
Critics say the flub was more than just a slip of the tongue—it’s part of a troubling pattern. Trump, who famously spends weekends golfing at his properties, seemed to have mentally drifted back to the fairway mid-announcement.
“This is not just a momentary lapse,” said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). “When the president can’t remember who’s in his Cabinet, Americans have every right to be concerned.”
Even as Trump laughed it off and handed Noem a ceremonial pen, the DHS secretary forced a smile and mimed a golf swing. But behind the awkward moment, insiders say tensions are rising.
“She was humiliated,” one White House staffer told The Daily Wire on background. “You could see it on her face. That’s not the kind of mistake you expect from the commander-in-chief.”
The gaffe occurred during the president’s unveiling of the Olympic National Security Task Force, which includes officials from the Departments of State, Defense, Transportation, Commerce, and Treasury. Trump will chair the group himself, with Vice President J.D. Vance serving as vice chair.
Gold medalist Nastia Liukin was also named to the task force. Pro golfer Cristie Kerr, for the record, was not.
Social media exploded within minutes of the slip, with #CristieKerr trending nationwide on X (formerly Twitter).
“It’s official: Trump knows his golf buddies better than his national security team,” one user posted.
“Your grandma mixes up names, and that’s fine. The president of the United States? Not so much,” another wrote.
Political analyst Rachel Bitcofer summed it up: “If this were Joe Biden, Fox News would be running this on a loop for the next week. But somehow, Trump’s gaffes keep getting a free pass.”
With the 2026 midterms looming and foreign threats on the rise, some Democratic leaders are renewing calls for cognitive evaluations for executive officeholders.
“Trump’s obsession with golf is getting dangerous,” said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT). “What happens when he confuses Iran with Mar-a-Lago?”
For now, Noem is still in her post, and Trump remains unapologetic.
But Tuesday’s senior moment wasn’t just awkward—it was a stark reminder that age, memory, and leadership may be clashing at the highest level of American power.

So Trump instantly realized he had put the wrong last name on a Kristi/Christie… a golfer instead of the politician… then just as quickly came up with the correct last name…
Trump confusing ‘Iran with Mar-a-Lago’, wasn’t that a claim Democrats also made about 8 years ago?
You people are pathetic juvenile retrogrades. Like Y O U N E V E R F O R G E T A N Y T H I N G and there is still that bridge in Brookland waiting for signature on the bottom line
Are you serious! It was an easy mistake to make and I know a lot of people are young have made the same mistake. Both women had the first name of Christie, not spelled the same. And the next person he introduces has the name.Kerr. So it’s a very easy mistake. Democrats are just looking for things so they can compare him to what Biden did. It’s getting old. It’s stupid and it’s so ridiculous.
Why didn’t they ask th
Memory slip can happen even to the sharpest young person; it is not unusual,
our press is unusually watching our US President Trump, every moment of his life
not to support our President and not even our Great Nation, but just gain point to degrade him. Too Bad. But most citizens of our great nation are with our President
Trump.
David.
Come on Dems, is this the best you can come up with! President Biden gets up at the debate and totally humiliates himself with totally incoherent jubberish on National Television and you are taking issue with this????? Not even close to being comparable.
The left is so convoluted it’s hilarious
