As President Trump holes up at his Scottish golf resorts, furious crowds take to the streets — and Europe braces for more.
President Donald Trump arrived in Scotland under the shadow of a criminal conviction, triggering a wave of protests across the country and drawing sharp rebukes from political leaders and ordinary citizens alike. His five-day visit, cloaked in military lockdown and diplomatic tension, marks the latest flashpoint in his chaotic second term.
Trump’s transatlantic tour kicked off Friday night with a landing at Glasgow’s Prestwick Airport. The U.S. ambassador to the U.K., Warren Stephens, and Scottish Secretary Ian Murray were on hand for the arrival. But the fanfare ended there.
Escorted by more than two dozen armored vehicles, Trump was whisked to his Turnberry golf resort. British troops secured the perimeter while police shut down surrounding roads, effectively locking down the area from the public.
“We haven’t seen anything like this since Bush in 2003,” one Edinburgh resident told local media. “Except this time, it’s worse — this time it’s Trump.”
Thousands marched in cities across Scotland on Saturday. In Edinburgh, protesters swarmed the U.S. Consulate, holding signs that read “Stop Trump, Free Gaza,” “Convicted Felon Go Home,” and “Scotland Rejects Fascism.” Demonstrations also erupted in Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Dumfries, where chants of “Not Welcome Here” echoed through the streets.
“The man is a criminal,” said Green Party MSP Isla MacRae, speaking at the Aberdeen protest. “Why should Scotland roll out the red carpet for someone convicted of crimes in his own country?”
Even The National, one of Scotland’s major newspapers, ran a defiant Friday front page: “Convicted US Felon to Arrive in Scotland.”
While isolated supporters cheered Trump’s motorcade — two were spotted holding a banner reading “Trump The Legend” — the overwhelming public sentiment was of anger and defiance.
Meanwhile, a counter-protest organized by the far-right UK Independence Party in Glasgow called for mass deportations and waved both Union Jacks and Scottish Saltires. Critics noted the disturbing symbolism of far-right groups appearing more aligned with the sitting American president than many U.S. allies.
“Trump is becoming a beacon for European extremism,” one former NATO official told Newsfront. “That’s a geopolitical red flag.”
Saturday’s protests came just hours after Trump stirred international backlash, telling reporters that Europe was experiencing a “horrible invasion” of migrants. “You better get your act together or you’re not going to have Europe anymore,” he said upon arrival — remarks critics blasted as xenophobic fear-mongering.
“Trump is using Europe as a stage for American political theater,” tweeted EU Parliament member Clara Schmid. “And he’s torching diplomacy in the process.”
Trump is expected to visit Aberdeenshire next, where he will inaugurate a new golf course dedicated to his late mother, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump, who was born on Scotland’s Isle of Lewis. He is also scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen before flying back to the U.S. on Tuesday.
With Trump’s state visit to England still ahead — and a meeting with King Charles III on the agenda — tensions are expected to remain high.
“This isn’t just a golf trip,” said political analyst Fiona McKellar. “This is a soft-power provocation by a convicted felon-president who still sees himself as the world’s main character.”
And if Saturday’s protests were any sign, Scotland — and much of Europe — plans to push back loudly.

Get the illegals out of Europe. Get the so called Palestinians out too. There never was a country named Palestine. In fact the so called Palestinians are descendants of Arab invaders from Arabia that arrived in the tenth century to call the existing residents and then were conquered and became part of the Ottoman Turkish Empire and citizen there of for yet next 400 years!! Along with Jews and Druze, Greeks and Roman’s that already lived there BEFORE THE ARABS. There never was a Palestine to free and there actually is no people known as Palestinians throughout history!!!
Country of Palestine has been around since 2,000 bce… Romans obliterated the evil Jew Religious Terrorists 2,000 years ago and any evil Jew survivors fled to the 4 corners of the earth… they never should have been allowed to return…
It’s time these made up “felony” charges were deleted. Everyone knows all the proof was made up.
I mean, really, the judge declaring that Mar-a-lago was only worth $18 million when unimproved property near it was appraised for $90 million. This judge was a Democrat out to get Trump before the case began. He had already decided the case before he heard it. And the jury didn’t even know what the charges were.
Also, everyone knows that banks do their own appraisals before granting loans. The entire case smelled of rotten Democrats.
I read these articles to enjoy the lefties melting in the pools of their own tears.
