Ellen DeGeneres might be ready to trade in the quiet farm life for another round in the spotlight.

The 67-year-old comedian and former daytime TV titan admitted during a live Q&A in Cheltenham, England, that she’s “a little bit bored” after swapping Hollywood for the Cotswolds. These days, Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi are surrounded by sheep, chickens, and horses—but the talk show queen says it might be time for something new.

“I do like my chickens, but I’m a little bit bored,” Ellen told host Richard Bacon during their sit-down. “I want to have fun. I want to do something.”

Ellen hasn’t made any official announcements, but she’s clearly itching for a fresh project—though she doubts she’ll go back to the traditional TV talk show format.

“I would love to do that again,” she said. “But I just feel like people are watching on their phones now. Everyone’s overwhelmed with entertainment options.”

Ellen’s last big project, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, wrapped up in 2022 after 19 seasons. The final years were clouded by accusations of a toxic workplace, something Ellen addressed again during the talk.

“I’m a direct person, I’m blunt. I guess that means I’m ‘mean’ now?” she said, shaking her head. “I hate that people think that. I know I’m an empathetic, compassionate person. But I don’t think I can ever say anything that will change that perception.”

Ellen also revealed that she and Portia are seriously considering renewing their vows—this time in the UK—amid growing fears about same-sex marriage rights being rolled back in the U.S.

The couple originally married in 2008 in California, but the political climate under President Donald Trump’s second term has them looking at legal protections overseas.

“The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriage,” Ellen said. “They’re literally trying to stop it and possibly undo it. So Portia and I are already looking into it. If they do, we’re getting married here.”

The couple moved to England just days before the 2024 U.S. election. When the results came in, Ellen says they took it as a sign to stay put.

“We woke up to texts with crying emojis. I knew he got in. And we were like, ‘We’re staying here,’” she recalled. “Everything here is just better.”

While she enjoys the peace of rural life, Ellen admits she’s still shaken by how easily her reputation was rewritten after decades of being seen as a champion of kindness.

“I wish we lived in a society where people could accept others for who they are,” she said. “Until we’re there, there’s still so much work to do.”

Whether it’s a return to screens, a new format, or something completely unexpected, Ellen’s hinting that she’s not done yet. And if she does make a comeback, don’t be surprised if she brings a chicken or two along for the ride.

  1. Nobody wants Ellen DeGenerate back, pimpimg homosexuality addiction mental illness back, or dead end homosexic marriage back…

  2. Please you left and trashed Americans so really no one really cares about you and we prefer you stay in the country you was so glad to be in. Stay were you are at No one cares anymore about you. Made your bed so sleep in it. Not funny anymore. Keep your bias butt there.

  3. It was stretching it to call her a comedian. She’s not funny. She hates being called mean when she was only being blunt. All of it trying to make herself relevant when nobody cares or wants her back. Just stay already!!!

  4. Dear Ellen, you used to be funny and appeared to be so nice. For your first show, you had mentioned you had no collections. I, being an extreme animal lover and having four greyhounds, I sent you my favorite greyhound mug that had great sentimental value to me. I never heard from you. You were still my favorite comedian. After years and hearing that you were nothing like the kind person you pretended to be, you should stay in England with or without your wife, who knows. No one will ever trust you again and you can never make a comeback. You can never come back from who you really are!
