In a move that critics are calling both cruel and wasteful, the Trump administration has authorized the destruction of nearly 500 tons of emergency food rations—enough to feed over a million starving children for a week. Instead of reaching hungry families in war-torn Afghanistan and Pakistan, these high-energy biscuits are being sent to incinerators.

The decision marks yet another low point in President Trump’s systematic rollback of global humanitarian aid since returning to office earlier this year.

The rations—nutritionally dense biscuits designed to sustain children under five during disasters—were stockpiled in a Dubai warehouse and set to expire this week. Rather than reroute the food to those in need, federal agencies under Trump’s control gave the order: burn it.

The biscuits were procured by USAID during the final months of the Biden administration as part of a long-standing emergency response program. The goal?
