Candace Owens Turns on Trump: ‘I’m Embarrassed I Backed Him’

Candace Owens, once one of President Trump’s most loyal defenders, has unleashed a stunning rebuke of the man she once praised as the savior of the Republican Party—saying she’s “embarrassed” she ever told people to vote for him.

“He’s been a chronic disappointment,” Owens said in a sharp interview with Piers Morgan. “I don’t know where we go from here, but this is not the candidate I voted for.”

It’s a shocking turnaround for a woman who stood beside Trump at the White House and helped fuel his 2016 rise among young conservatives and Black Americans. But now, Owens says she feels betrayed—especially by Trump’s recent decision to launch military strikes against Iran.

Trump’s Middle East Moves Spark MAGA Civil War

Owens joins a growing chorus of influential conservatives—like Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene—who say Trump is abandoning his America First promises by getting entangled in another foreign war.

“Trump is betraying MAGA,” Owens declared last week on The Stephen A. Smith Show. “He promised to stop the endless wars—and now he’s doing the bidding of foreign governments instead of standing up for Americans.”

Trump’s strike on Iranian nuclear sites, a move his administration says was necessary to stop Tehran’s weapons program, has infuriated the non-interventionist wing of the movement that helped elect him. Owens isn’t buying the official line.

“There was no imminent threat to America,” she told Morgan. “This wasn’t about U.S. security—it was about pleasing Israel. It was Bibi Netanyahu’s decision, not Trump’s.”

From MAGA Darling to Dissenter

Owens didn’t stop there. She accused “Israel-first neocons” of hijacking the MAGA movement and claimed Trump is “being manipulated” by foreign interests.

“We’re very aware that Israel is dictating our foreign policy, and we’d now like that to stop,” she said.

The former Daily Wire host, who was fired in March after repeated clashes with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro and controversial statements about the Gaza conflict, says Trump’s growing alignment with pro-Israel donors is disturbing.

She pointed to the $100 million campaign donation Trump received from Miriam Adelson, the widow of GOP mega-donor Sheldon Adelson, calling it a “deal with the devil.”

“He delivered his pound of flesh,” Owens said. “And it cost us our principles.”

Owens Accuses Israel of ‘Genocide’ in Gaza

Owens went even further in her criticisms, referring to Israel as a “terrorist state” and accusing it of “imparting a genocide and a holocaust on the Gazan people.”

“I’m really over this idea that somehow Israel has the moral high ground and we have to get behind them,” she said bluntly.

The remarks have deepened the rift between Owens and the GOP establishment—especially figures like Shapiro, who cut ties with her after accusing her of spreading antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Where Does MAGA Go From Here?

Once a breakout star of Turning Point USA and a key architect of the movement’s outreach to Black voters, Owens now finds herself at odds with the very machine she helped build.

“This isn’t just about Trump—it’s about the soul of the America First movement,” a source close to Owens told us. “We’ve got to ask: Are we standing up for working Americans, or are we just doing the bidding of foreign elites?”

As Trump heads into the final stretch of the 2024 campaign, cracks are forming in the MAGA coalition that once carried him to victory. And Candace Owens—once a face of that movement—is leading the revolt.

Whether this is a temporary flare-up or the beginning of a deeper political realignment remains to be seen. But one thing’s clear: Trump is facing fire from within—and this time, it’s not from the left.
