Settlement talks rock left-leaning network as Trump turns media war into political win
President Donald Trump’s high-stakes legal standoff with CBS and its parent company Paramount Global may not bring in the full $20 billion he initially demanded—but it’s far from the defeat mainstream outlets are spinning.
After months of legal wrangling, a mediator has proposed a $20 million settlement to resolve Trump’s explosive lawsuit over CBS’s 2024 60 Minutes interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris—a segment Trump blasted as “manipulated” and “blatant election interference.”
The offer includes $17 million for Trump’s presidential library and $3 million to cover legal fees and fund public service announcements condemning antisemitism. While lower than Trump’s original demand, the proposed payout still tops ABC’s December 2024 $15 million settlement with the president—suggesting a growing recognition within media giants that missteps against Trump come at a steep price.
“This isn’t just about money. This is about truth, accountability, and making sure the media doesn’t get away with rigging another election,” a senior Trump campaign official told Patriot Wire on Wednesday. “They tried to silence him. Now they’re paying the price.”
The Interview That Sparked a Firestorm
The controversy centers around CBS’s 60 Minutes special that aired just weeks before the 2024 election. The segment included Kamala Harris’ remarks on Israel, but the network ran two different edits across its platforms—one on Face the Nation and another in the main broadcast.
Trump, who was not invited to participate in the special, accused CBS of deliberately distorting the interview to protect Harris and influence the outcome of the election. He filed a lawsuit in October 2024 demanding $10 billion, later raising it to $20 billion as evidence mounted.
“It was a hit job,” Trump told supporters at a December rally in Pennsylvania. “They manipulated video, cut out context, and broadcast propaganda. That’s not journalism—that’s election interference.”
Heads Roll Inside CBS
The fallout inside Paramount has been swift and severe. 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens was forced to resign, and CBS News and Stations President Wendy McMahon was ousted. Insiders say both departures were tied directly to their roles in the Harris episode and resistance to offering a public apology.
Though Paramount has thus far refused to issue the apology Trump is seeking, the lawsuit has already disrupted internal operations and may be jeopardizing the company’s future.
Merger on Thin Ice
Paramount is currently attempting a controversial merger with Skydance Media, the firm led by tech billionaire and producer David Ellison. But Trump’s legal action—and the proposed settlement—has raised alarms.
Executives fear that settling for more than ABC’s $15 million payout could open them up to allegations of bribery or undue influence of a federal official. The company has reportedly retained top legal counsel from Gibson Dunn to assess whether a payout above that threshold would draw scrutiny.
Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr—an outspoken Trump ally—has said he will weigh formal complaints about CBS’s election coverage when reviewing the merger deal.
Final Word Pending
While neither the White House nor Paramount has issued a formal statement, sources close to the president say Trump is holding firm in his demand for an on-air apology and public acknowledgment of wrongdoing.
“This isn’t over until they admit what they did,” said the Trump campaign official. “He’s not backing down.”
Bottom Line: Trump may not walk away with the full $20 billion—but his legal offensive is already reshaping corporate media and reaffirming his grip over the national conversation. What began as a lawsuit could end up as another political win in his 2024 revenge tour.

LIARS, LIARS, LIARS, always lying, always opinionating never telling the truth!
PRESIDENT TRUMP does not need the money.
The insurances which cover the business do dish out the cash.
The monthly rates go up, and up, and up. Same as your insurance payments after an at fault accident.
FEAR is what is working on the minds of the asses on the screens.
Good Trump becoming President again saved the taxpayers $10Trillion over 4 years so a mere $20Billion fine for corruptly dishonestly trying to swing the election in the other really bad direction is warranted and justified!
