A small-town town hall meeting turned into a chilling security concern after Rep. Hillary Scholten of Michigan discovered her name was allegedly on a target list tied to a brutal double murder that has rocked the Midwest.

The Muskegon event, originally scheduled for Monday evening, was abruptly called off after authorities informed Scholten that she may have been in the crosshairs of 57-year-old Vance Boelter, the suspected gunman behind a deadly rampage in Minnesota.

“After being made aware that my name was on a list connected to the recent tragic shooting in Minnesota, my office has made the difficult decision to postpone our planned town hall in Muskegon,” Scholten said in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution and to not divert additional law enforcement resources away from protecting the broader public at this time, this is the responsible choice.”

Boelter, a self-described survivalist from rural Minnesota, was arrested Sunday night on his farm near Green Isle after a manhunt. The arrest came just hours after he allegedly gunned down Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in their Brooklyn Park home on Saturday morning. Authorities say Boelter also critically injured state Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in a separate but related attack.

According to investigators, Boelter was armed to the teeth when he was caught—carrying multiple firearms in his vehicle. But what stunned officials most was what they found in his notebooks: a detailed list of 45 elected officials. Many of them, like Hortman, were Democrats.

A law enforcement source familiar with the investigation described the discovery as “deeply disturbing.”

“This wasn’t random. Boelter had clearly done his homework. These names were written with intent,” the source said, requesting anonymity due to the ongoing probe.

While authorities have not publicly released the full list of names, Rep. Scholten’s office confirmed her inclusion and stressed that she is cooperating fully with federal and local investigators.

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security have now joined the multi-state investigation, fearing the case could be part of a broader anti-government or political violence threat.

Rep. Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District and is one of the state’s few Democratic voices in West Michigan, was elected in 2022 after flipping a historically conservative seat. She has since become a vocal advocate for gun reform and reproductive rights—positions that may have made her a lightning rod for extremist ire.

The canceled event was intended to be a routine constituent town hall—one of several Scholten had planned for the summer recess.

“Constituent access and transparency remain a top priority for our office,” Scholten’s team said in a follow-up statement. “We will reschedule the Muskegon event when it is safe and appropriate to do so.”

In the wake of the violence, lawmakers across the country are quietly re-evaluating their public schedules and security protocols. Some are even calling for increased federal protections for state and local officials.

“This is a sobering reminder of the political climate we’re operating in,” said a senior House staffer. “We’ve crossed into dangerous territory.”

Boelter now faces a slew of federal and state charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and interstate stalking. His first court appearance is expected later this week.

Meanwhile, families across Minnesota and now Michigan are left shaken by what seems to be a calculated campaign of political terror.

As one Capitol Hill aide bluntly put it: “This wasn’t just a tragedy. It was a warning.”

    1. come on buzz. your being a putz. would you show up, so soon? i’m not sure i would. also, get your PSA checked. for your family.

  1. This is what is wrong with our America today… there is no reason for violence on either side against right or left, replublican or democrat or anyone else! What is needed isn’t gunncontrol, look what just happened in Austria which has gun control! What is needed is mental health facilities, getting rid of drugs and providing good jobs with opportunity so people aren’t so angry and desperate!

  2. If borders were never opened we would not have as much hate in this country. Obama started the racism and it continued even more with illegals coming into the country. If Americans would stop and really think about what they are doing to their own country hopefully they would work together to clean up this once beautiful country. Don’t fall apart from within That’s what other countries are waiting for

  3. Angelo, maybe if people would stop catering to ILLEGALS and democrats who hate America this would go away. Enforce the law for “every one” and stop doing everything to over ride the constitution things will get better. Remember, ” GUNS DON’T KILL, PEOPLE DO”. If you disagree fine give me just 1 time a gun loaded it’s self aimed at a person and pulled it’s own trigger. Division is the problem and caused by the very same party that founded and supports the KKK and PP with the attempt to remove the black citizens. Not to mention they are the very same party that murdered their own POTUS, J.F. Kennedy.
