The attack came just hours after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a fiery televised warning: “Do not think it’s over. Life will be dark for them. Iran’s armed forces will strike hard.”

Khamenei’s remarks were seen by analysts as a direct signal that Tehran is preparing for sustained conflict with Israel—possibly even dragging the U.S. deeper into the region’s latest war scare.

The Biden administration’s former officials have publicly urged caution. “This is exactly what we feared when diplomacy was sidelined,” said former U.S. ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro. “When pressure builds without a political outlet, the explosion is inevitable.”
