White House brushes it off, but critics see signs of a deeper problem

Another mysterious bruise has reappeared on Donald Trump’s right hand—and this time, not even the makeup could hide it.

The former president, now 78 and seeking to reclaim the White House, was seen with a dark, discolored patch on the back of his dominant hand during multiple public events this week, raising fresh questions about his health and fitness as he approaches 79.

Photos taken Monday inside the White House show Trump awkwardly clutching his right hand, where a brownish-purple mark was clearly visible beneath layers of cosmetic cover. The discoloration was first noticed over a year ago during his New York criminal trial involving Stormy Daniels and has since resurfaced during major public appearances—especially after extended handshakes or strenuous travel.

Bruises, Makeup, and Denials

This latest appearance of the mark was captured during Trump’s speech at Fort Bragg on Tuesday. The event was intended to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, but instead of unifying praise, many online zoomed in on his hand—and his increasingly frail demeanor.

A White House aide chalked it up to “vigorous handshaking,” echoing the explanation given months ago after Trump’s infamous grip battle with French President Emmanuel Macron. “President Trump meets more Americans and shakes more hands than any president in history,” said Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. “That kind of engagement leaves marks.”

But physicians aren’t convinced.

Dr. Stuart Fischer, a New York internist who reviewed recent images, said in an earlier interview that such bruising—especially in the same spot—is “unusual and potentially indicative of a deeper issue,” citing the possibility of osteoarthritis or a circulatory disorder. “This isn’t just a handshake injury,” Fischer added. “It’s worth a closer look.”

What’s Trump Hiding?

That’s the question some critics are asking. While Trump and his allies have relentlessly attacked President Biden’s age and physical fitness, observers note the double standard when Trump’s own visible signs of aging are waved off.

“He’s always pointing fingers at Biden’s ‘decline,’ yet we keep seeing Trump stumble, mumble, and cover up these bruises with foundation like he’s hiding a secret,” said Democratic strategist Karen Finney. “The real question is, what are they so afraid of the public seeing?”

Earlier this year, Trump nearly tripped boarding Air Force One. His balance issues, stiff movements, and repetitive speech patterns have been widely noted by both pundits and mental health experts.

And yet, Trump’s campaign insists he’s in “incredible health,” citing his “nonstop schedule” as proof.

But behind the scenes, there’s growing discomfort even among conservative circles. “There’s a lot we don’t know about what’s going on with him physically,” said one former White House official who requested anonymity. “And they’re going out of their way to keep it that way.”

Double Standards on Display

The issue of aging politicians has become a central concern for voters in 2025. While Biden faced endless media scrutiny over his gait and speech, Trump—who is just three years younger—has managed to sidestep the same intensity of coverage.

That may be changing. A newly released book, Original Sin by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson, claims that even Biden’s team privately discussed wheelchair options for a second term. But critics argue that Trump’s team has been no more transparent—and potentially more evasive—about their candidate’s vulnerabilities.

“Biden walked slowly. Trump’s hand is literally turning purple,” said MSNBC analyst Mehdi Hasan. “Guess which one the media obsessed over?”

Aging, Vanity, and Power

Trump’s longtime obsession with image control is well documented. From slathering bronzer to micromanaging lighting angles at rallies, the former president has long avoided visual signs of aging. This bruise—and its attempt at concealment—clashes with that curated image.

And as the 2024 campaign season grinds forward, every falter, trip, or unexplained mark may chip away at the persona Trump’s team is so desperate to preserve.

Asked for comment, the White House referred back to previous statements. Trump himself has not addressed the bruise—either online or during his recent podcast appearance with Miranda Devine.

In that interview, Trump blasted Biden, Elon Musk, and California rioters. But the most pressing questions may not have been asked: What’s really going on with his health? And why is the White House working so hard to cover it up?

  1. So the people who STILL claim the last resident was sharp as a tack are concerned about bruises on an octogenarian who IS sharp as a tack?? That’s funny!

  2. Any person, regardless of age, can stumble and fall. White people are easily bruised. Stop the harassment and leave that man alone. Biden fell constantly, was in a daze, often disoriented, not knowing where to go. His communication was unelectable. There’s no comparison. It was a total mockery of us, the American people. It’s not so much age as having the ability to do the job.

  3. turn about y’all. if ya hadn’t made such a big deal every time biden stumbled, this wouldn’t be happening to trump. again, on the magas. old is old, period. if we’re lucky, it’ll happen to us all.

  4. Omg! A bruise, he may possibly have osteoarthritis!! What 78 year old doesn’t! Is dibilitating??? No!

By the way you said “And as the 2024 campaign season grinds forward” …. What campaign!

Do you even know what year this is and who is president!! Maybe your team should be checked for dementia!!!!

  5. Ya all those years of coverups on Bush’s, Clinton’s, Obama’s, Biden’s and certain congress people are just great to save democracy. While a couple of minor things get blow up like the plague. Their was no wet steps Biden fell up. Trump and Rubio both had rain on steps. The bruise on his hand could be simple as what I do and get bruised. I have bruised my hand in same way over several years. I am not paying attention to what I am doing and my hand hit something. Ya it hurts and in coming days I am bruised. My knees are same way. If you worked half as hard as President Trump then you can complain but those who sit back and ignored other President’s and their health issues you don’t get to attack on a man you hate because of this. I can go on internet and see bruises on other President’s that no one even brought it up. So shut up. Fact is yes a bruise. But trying to make a big deal over it is how democrats and their puppets work. Coverup for real issues like auto pen for everything cause everyone knew basement boy was gone before Inauguration Day. Coverup of so many things so you people blowing your mouths about this is pathetic. Way I look at it is just another distraction for a cause to get rid of an administration that you hate because your corruption has been front and center. Losing views is getting worse by the day over this crap. Tell me why did you coverup everything now want to bring up things on others. Get the facts not spread lies. Democrats and puppets are running so scared they use judicial system to stop a President from doing his job is pathetic at best. Only one problem you all are making votes for Republicans in 2026 , 2028 and beyond. More you all lie and open mouths the more Americans see the truth. Red across across USA in coming elections. I would bet within five years the legacy media, social media, and businesses that helped coverup everything then lie about it will be out of business period. Remember we the people are not stupid like you all. Morals and values are in our blood and we can’t be bought or silenced. Love of Hod, Country, Family, Religion and other things is what puts us American First. We don’t forget what has been done to us and who did it. Truth still prevails. Do you not ever get bruises?

  6. You want a closer look at Trump but not Biden ! The guy runs 16 to 18 hours a day putting out the prior Admin fires and trying to get the economy going and the inflation caused by Biden money printing to be lower – food and gas. Stop two wars and stop Iran. I am sure he will work through a bruise on his hand

  7. How stupid is this author? Trump already won the Presidency. Makes me wonder what else in this article is false!

  8. We all get old if we are lucky and part of aging is our skin gets thin and bruises easily. What does it really matter? It is very sad about President Biden and sad for his family but I don’t believe President Trump has gotten lost in his walk-in closet!

  9. Remember, Trump spent six weeks in an”ice box.” It was literally torchurous. That certainly can take a toll on his physical wellbeing.

  10. These sites always call him former President. I am 77, and get bruises that I have no idea how they got there. Our skin gets thin, and it doesn’t take much. I was walking through a restaurant and my arm swung out a little and hit a chair. Big bruise on the back of my hand.

    1. Same here, I’ll be 76 in December, I get them all the time, I have a real gem of one right now – walked past my couch table (you know the tall ones you put behind your couch) my arm swung out a little and the top of my hand hit the pointed corner and wala – a major really dark bruise! It will be gone in a couple of days, and if I rub a little Arnicare Bruise Gel on it, it will be gone even faster.

  11. I agree with all that was written. I my self get the same kind of bruise and don’t remember how I got them.

  12. they the Media have to find something that will discredit President Trump. My o My–when will it end.

  13. Freaks spouting speculation and lies as fact. Just like Musk having a bruise on his face. Lets create a story…Trump and Musk were in a slap fight…yeah, that’s the ticket.
