A Republican lawmaker with a history of quoting Adolf Hitler is once again under fire — this time for launching a bigoted tirade against a religious leader she didn’t even bother to identify correctly.
Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) ignited a political firestorm Friday after publicly lashing out at a Sikh man who delivered the opening prayer in the House of Representatives — falsely calling him a Muslim and insisting his presence violated America’s so-called “Christian roots.”
“It’s deeply troubling that a Muslim was allowed to lead prayer in the House of Representatives this morning,” Miller wrote in a now-deleted post on X. “This should have never been allowed to happen. America was founded as a Christian nation.”
The only problem? The man she targeted — Giani Surinder Singh, a prominent Sikh faith leader from New Jersey — is not Muslim. He was invited as a guest chaplain, part of a long-running bipartisan tradition in the House to honor America’s religious diversity.
Miller’s Meltdown: From Misinformation to Deletion
Within hours, Miller quietly edited her post to correct Singh’s religion — but by then, screenshots had already gone viral. She later deleted the post entirely and refused to comment, while her office stayed silent.
The backlash was immediate, fierce, and bipartisan.
“That would be you, Mary.”
“It’s deeply troubling that such an ignorant and hateful extremist is serving in the United States Congress,” House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries fired back on X. “That would be you, Mary.”
Even members of her own party recoiled.
“I’m troubled by my colleague’s remarks,” said Rep. David Valadao (R-CA). “Sikh-Americans are pillars of our communities. They deserve respect — not public humiliation.”
Civil Rights Groups Erupt: “Apologize Now”
Harman Singh, policy director of the Sikh Coalition, demanded a public apology — not just to Sikhs, but to Muslims as well.
“Congresswoman Miller should apologize to both communities,” he said. “No American should be targeted because of their faith.”
Haris Tarin, vice president of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, called her comments “pure Islamophobia.”
“She needs a refresher on the First Amendment,” Tarin said. “This country wasn’t founded for one religion. It was founded for all.”
Hitler Flashback: A Disturbing Pattern
This isn’t Rep. Miller’s first brush with dangerous rhetoric.
In 2021, she infamously praised Adolf Hitler’s youth strategy during a speech:
“Hitler was right about one thing. Whoever has the youth has the future.”
That comment sparked nationwide condemnation, but Miller brushed it off as a “misunderstanding.”
Now critics say her latest post proves it wasn’t a one-time slip — it’s a pattern.
“She’s not just offensive,” one social media user wrote. “She’s proudly ignorant — and dangerous.”
From Prayer to Political Earthquake
Ironically, the man she attacked — Giani Surinder Singh — was praised by Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who led the session.
“Day after day, year after year, he leads with humility, peace, and service,” Van Drew said. “Those are not just Sikh values. They’re American values.”
But to Rep. Mary Miller, diversity on the House floor is apparently an existential threat.
Now facing widespread condemnation and growing calls to apologize, one thing is clear: Miller’s crusade for “Christian nationalism” just backfired — big.

No religic of any brand should be leading any prayers in any Govt assembly and forcing them on others!
Sikhs are not known for being gentle/peaceful…
For once I concur with Nextgennews! America was founded based on freedom of religion. Yes Mary is entitled to her first amendment right of free speech but not at the expense of someone’s religion especially such a peaceful religion as practiced by the Sikhs! And certainly not as a representative of the United States of America!!
