Elon Musk Teases New Political Party Amid Trump Fallout

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur known for building rockets, cars, and controversy, is now hinting at building something even more disruptive: his own political party.

In the wake of a very public falling-out with President Trump and a cold shoulder from Democrats, Musk appears to be flirting with the idea of launching what he calls a new “America Party” — a third-party alternative aimed at what he claims is the “ignored majority.”

“The people have spoken. A new political party is needed in America,” Musk declared Friday on X, his social media platform. “This is fate.”

The post came just 24 hours after Musk floated a poll to his 220 million followers, asking: “Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?” Over 5.6 million people responded — with nearly 80% saying yes.

Musk’s pivot toward party-building follows a turbulent few weeks in Washington. Once hailed by conservatives as a fiscal hawk and deregulation warrior, the Tesla CEO’s honeymoon with the GOP has crumbled after an explosive spat with President Trump over the administration’s proposed “Big, Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping infrastructure and tech subsidy package.

Musk didn’t hold back, calling the bill a “disgusting abomination” that would “bankrupt the country.” In a post that’s since gone viral, he warned: “This bill is a Trojan horse for the surveillance state. I didn’t join government to rubber-stamp tyranny.”

Trump, never one to take criticism lightly, fired back — accusing Musk of jealousy, failed leadership at the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency, and even insinuating financial misconduct. That ignited a social media slugfest reminiscent of a rap beef, with hashtags like #MuskMeltdown and #TraitorTech trending for hours.

Behind the Fallout

Musk was appointed last year to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, a new agency tasked with slashing federal waste. His mandate: disrupt the bureaucracy with the same ruthless cost-cutting principles he used at Tesla and SpaceX.

But critics say Musk alienated career civil servants and clashed with nearly every Cabinet member. “He came in swinging, but never learned how to listen,” said a former senior aide who worked under him. “He thought government worked like Silicon Valley — it doesn’t.”

By May, tensions had boiled over. According to insiders, Trump personally ordered Musk’s resignation after a heated Oval Office meeting. Though the White House called the departure “amicable,” Musk has since made clear he’s not interested in returning to the fold.

‘America Party’: Pipe Dream or Political Disruption?

Musk has hinted at political aspirations before, but this marks his most concrete step toward building something institutional. On X, he embraced the name “America Party” after a user suggested it. “The party that actually represents America!” Musk responded.

He later reposted a long thread by a crypto influencer who outlined a Musk-led vision for “dismantling the establishment.” The post echoed Musk’s libertarian-leaning beliefs, with calls for AI-managed government budgeting, campaign finance reform via blockchain, and term limits for Congress.

Polling from Gallup as far back as 2015 has shown that a plurality of Americans identify as independents, frustrated by the two-party system. But turning that discontent into a functional political movement is a herculean task — one that has repeatedly failed in the past.

Still, Musk seems undeterred.

“This isn’t about me,” he wrote late Friday night. “It’s about fixing a broken system. We need leaders who code, not politicians who lie.”

Whether the “America Party” becomes a lasting movement or just another Twitter tantrum remains to be seen. But in today’s hyper-polarized political climate, Musk’s next move is guaranteed to make noise — and possibly peel away voters tired of choosing between extremes.
