Melania Trump has broken her silence to shoot down a viral rumor that her son, Barron Trump, was rejected by Harvard University—a claim that conspiracy theorists say is fueling President Donald Trump’s aggressive crusade against the Ivy League institution.

“Barron did not apply to Harvard, and any assertion that he, or that anyone on his behalf, applied is completely false,” said Melania’s communications director, Nicholas Clemens, in a rare statement to the New York Post.

Online sleuths and political pundits have linked the president’s escalating war on Harvard to personal revenge—suggesting that Trump is lashing out because his youngest son was denied a spot at the school.
