A birthday trip to the movies turned into a nightmare for one woman in Argentina when the ceiling of a theater came crashing down—during a screening of Final Destination Bloodlines.

Fiamma Villaverde, 29, says she was celebrating her birthday with her 11-year-old daughter and a friend at Cinema Ocho in La Plata on May 19 when part of the ceiling suddenly collapsed on top of her.

“At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were so into it,” Villaverde told local outlet Infobae. “But then a huge piece fell on me. Luckily, it didn’t hit my head—I was leaning over the armrest.”

The moment was eerily in sync with the Final Destination franchise’s signature theme: people dying in bizarre, often freak accidents after escaping death. In this latest installment, Bloodlines, college student Stefani (played by Kaitlyn Santa Juana) fights to stop a deadly curse from wiping out her family.

Villaverde wasn’t laughing. “I haven’t been to the movies in years,” she said. “I went because it was my birthday, and look what happened to me.”

She suffered bruises and hasn’t been able to return to work since the incident. She’s now hired a lawyer, filed a complaint, and demanded a refund.

“Imagine if they hit my daughter in the head?” she said.

Despite the scare, Final Destination Bloodlines is a box office smash. Since opening on May 16, the film has already grossed over $180 million globally.

No fatalities were reported in the incident. But the irony of a Final Destination fan getting injured while watching people get picked off by fate isn’t lost on anyone.
