“That calling is there,” Trump’s eldest son says, as ethics experts raise alarm over the growing merger between politics and profit.
Donald Trump Jr. is now openly flirting with the idea of a 2028 presidential run, raising eyebrows at home and abroad as he positions himself not only as his father’s heir apparent—but as a key figure in a political movement that’s growing increasingly intertwined with private business.
Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum, the 47-year-old son of President Donald Trump hinted that he’s ready to extend the family’s grip on American politics.
“You know, that calling is there,” Trump Jr. told Bloomberg’s Joumanna Bercetche. “I don’t know… maybe one day.”
While his tone was lighthearted, his message was anything but. Flanked by anti-ESG investor Omeed Malik—co-founder of the MAGA-aligned investment firm 1789 Capital—Trump Jr. fielded a question about whether he’d take the reins after his father’s second term ends.
“It’s an honor to be asked and an honor to see that some people are okay with it,” he said with a smirk, nodding to a small round of applause in the room. “You never know.”
Building a Political Brand Through Business
Trump Jr. has spent the past year consolidating his image not as a government official, but as a cultural warrior in the MAGA business universe.
After declining an official role in the Trump administration, he instead became a partner at 1789 Capital—a firm explicitly designed to combat so-called “woke capitalism.” Malik, his partner, has described environmental and social governance (ESG) policies as a “cult,” and openly supports investment strategies that align with right-wing values.
1789’s first major move? Backing Tucker Carlson’s new media empire, co-founded with former Dick Cheney aide Neil Patel.
The firm is also backed by Rebekah Mercer, the conservative billionaire heiress whose family helped bankroll Trump’s original 2016 run. Malik and Mercer’s influence looms large in GOP donor circles—and Trump Jr. is now firmly embedded in that ecosystem.
“He’s not just Donald’s son anymore,” said political analyst Tara Singh of the Brookings Institution. “He’s staking out an independent power base through media, investments, and culture war capital. This is a man planning a long game.”
Ethics Questions Swirl
But ethics experts say the blending of private gain and political ambition has reached new heights.
“It’s a glaring conflict of interest,” said Richard Briffault, a government ethics expert at Columbia Law School. “Trump Jr. is leveraging the presidency not to serve in government—but to multiply his influence and wealth. I don’t think there’s a precedent for this level of coordination between public office and private enrichment.”
Don Jr. currently holds executive or advisory roles at at least eight companies, including Trump Media & Technology Group, Public Square Holdings, and The Trump Organization. Alongside his brother Eric, he’s helping push Trump properties into international expansion, including a $1.5 billion real estate project in Vietnam.
His latest venture? An ultra-exclusive D.C. social club called “Executive Branch”—a wink at presidential power, priced at a jaw-dropping $500,000 per year.
From Culture Wars to Campaign Trail?
Though he insists his current focus is business, Trump Jr. made clear that he sees the White House as a possible next step—especially if no other Republican can match his father’s momentum.
“I’ll always be active and vocal,” he said in Qatar. “What my father did was fundamentally change the Republican Party… and that needs to continue.”
The statement underscores what many Democrats fear: the Trump dynasty isn’t retreating. It’s expanding—blending entertainment, outrage, and investment into a formula designed to outlast Donald Sr.’s time in office.
“He’s a podcast host, a businessman, and a political agitator,” said Democratic strategist James Carville. “It’s not a presidential résumé—it’s a MAGA one.”
For now, Don Jr. is content cashing in on influence. But make no mistake: the campaign seeds are being planted. And in an America still grappling with Trumpism’s reach, his next move could be more serious than some are willing to admit.

This is surly a joke, that coke head would only get his fathers vote.
WOW! MAGA has great candidates to chose from compared to only low I.Q. whacko criminal ones from Democrats!
Coke head! Are you talking about Hunter??
Seriously “dangerous melding of business and political power”? He’s out front, he vocal and he’s rich. Just like all our founding fathers but unlike the Biden family his connections aren’t hidden! I don’t yet see any corrupt deals with foreign oligarchs… if there were you would be blowing that story up worse than how you all buried the hunter Biden laptop story!!!
Every American citizen over 35 has the right to consider running for president!
hell, there are pics with there coke hanging out of his nose. they tried to blame the coke in the WH on hunter, but trump was in office when it was found, so why not jr’s? hunter was clean when it was found. for a couple of yrs at that time. jr was heavy into then. jr in the WH would be a nightmare of epic proportions. way worse even than his dad. every damn thing would be for sale. same with jared kushner, his bro in law
Now the US is finished !
If having four years with daddy and you vote for the son you guys are nuts
