Comedian Wanda Sykes didn’t hold back when she dropped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night, firing off blunt advice to white liberals who she says need to step up and fix the damage left by Donald Trump.
“Y’all should be embarrassed by this,” Sykes said flatly, addressing the majority-white studio audience. “Seriously, this is y’all’s homework now.”
Sykes, known for her sharp political humor and unapologetic honesty, ripped into the Trump era as “embarrassing, incompetent, and corrupt.” But she wasn’t about to let white progressives off the hook.
“Black people—we’re busy. We’re doing other stuff right now,” she joked. “Y’all gotta do it.”
She acknowledged that some might take offense. “I already know. I hear you: ‘Why us, Wanda?’” she said, mimicking critics. “Because we tried to tell y’all. We warned you. And you didn’t want to listen. So now… congratulations. It’s your problem.”
Sykes praised the protest movement against Trump but said it wasn’t enough. “You’re doing great, keep protesting,” she said. “But now it’s time to amp it up. Go study some old Black protests. Take notes. We perfected that playbook.”
In classic Sykes fashion, she added with a smirk: “Black folks, we’ll support you—from a safe distance. We’ll ‘like’ your Instagram post. Maybe retweet you.”
Sykes Takes Aim at Pete Hegseth Over National Security Leak
The Emmy-winning comedian, who spent years working at the National Security Agency before finding fame in stand-up, also slammed Trump’s pick for national security adviser, Pete Hegseth, after reports emerged he leaked classified war plans over the messaging app Signal.
“Holy crap—that’s what I’m allowed to say on TV,” Sykes said of her reaction to the leak.
“Pete Hegseth texting war plans is like handing your diary to TMZ,” she quipped. “Signal is for booty calls—not Pentagon secrets.”
Drawing from her own NSA experience as a procurement specialist, Sykes explained just how serious security protocols used to be. “When I worked there, I couldn’t even have credit card debt,” she recalled. “They flagged me for buying stereo equipment on layaway. Meanwhile, these fools are passing around war plans like it’s fantasy football.”
She added sharply: “There’s supposed to be a record of every meeting. Top officials don’t just hop on Signal like it’s Tinder.”
Despite public outrage, Hegseth remains in his position. “I really thought they would fire him,” Sykes said. “My bad for having faith in basic national security.”
Sykes Doubles Down: Trump Should Just “Resign”
The next morning, Sykes appeared on The View, where co-host Sunny Hostin asked what Trump could do to regain public trust. Sykes didn’t hesitate.
“Resign,” she said. “That’s it. Step down and save us the paperwork.”
Mocking Trump’s sinking approval numbers, Sykes deadpanned, “I think gout has a higher approval rating than he does.”
Her rapid-fire critiques come at a time when Trump’s scandals—including mishandling classified documents, tanking approval ratings, and a growing list of legal woes—continue to dominate headlines.
Wanda Sykes isn’t asking for white liberals to save democracy quietly. She’s demanding it—with a microphone, a sense of humor, and zero patience left.
