Shooting at Teen Party Leaves 2 Dead and 4 Injured

A night meant for celebration spiraled into chaos in Tacoma, Washington, early Saturday morning, as gunfire erupted at a house party packed with teenagers and young adults. Two young lives were cut short, four others were injured, and now a community is left shaken, angry, and searching for answers.

Gunshots, Screams, and Panic in the Street

Just after midnight, Pierce County deputies responded to a 911 barrage from a typically quiet neighborhood. What they arrived to was pure mayhem: dozens of frightened teens sprinting from the house, some tripping over each other in the darkness. Cars clogged the street, with some drivers trying to flee so fast they ended up stuck in yards and ditches.

“People were screaming, cars were spinning, and I just prayed no one else would get shot,” said neighbor Terri Delgado, who witnessed the aftermath from her window. “It sounded like a war zone.”

The sheriff’s department said the violence started after a fight broke out outside the house. Moments later, shots rang out.

Young Victims, Familiar Tragedy

Deputies found a male victim in the street and tried to revive him, but he died at the scene. Five others, ranging in age from 16 to 21, were rushed to hospitals—mostly by terrified friends. One of those victims later died from his injuries.

The four others remain hospitalized, but officials say they’re expected to survive.

“This isn’t just another statistic,” said Pastor Michael Greene, who leads a youth program in Tacoma. “These were our kids. This was preventable.”

Teen Suspect in Custody

Authorities confirmed Saturday that a male juvenile had been arrested in connection with the shooting. His identity has not yet been released, and investigators are still piecing together how the night spiraled into bloodshed.

Nearby homes and several cars were riddled with bullet holes, underscoring the wild, unpredictable nature of the violence.

“Another grim reminder of how quickly things can go wrong when guns are mixed with teenage parties,” said the sheriff’s department in a statement.

A Growing Pattern in American Cities

Tacoma’s tragedy is just the latest in a troubling pattern of youth gun violence across the country. From Chicago to Atlanta, communities are grappling with how to keep gatherings safe while facing a flood of firearms in the hands of young people.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, more than 100 mass shootings have occurred in the U.S. in the first three months of 2025—many involving victims under 21.

Local leaders say they’ve had enough.

“I’ve talked to too many mothers who never got to see their child graduate,” said Tacoma Councilmember Lillian Hunter. “We need stronger gun laws. We need youth intervention programs. And we need them yesterday.”

Authorities are urging anyone with footage or information to come forward. Meanwhile, local organizations are planning a vigil for the victims, and community groups are calling for an emergency meeting with city leaders.

“We’re not letting this one fade away,” said Pastor Greene. “We’re going to make sure these kids didn’t die for nothing.”
