Minnesota State Senator Justin Eichorn, a staunch Republican and longtime Trump supporter, resigned in disgrace Thursday after being arrested in a law enforcement sting targeting child prostitution.

His resignation comes as a bombshell, shaking Minnesota’s Republican ranks and raising deeper questions about accountability among conservative leadership.

Eichorn, 40, was caught attempting to solicit a minor for prostitution in an undercover operation conducted by law enforcement in Bloomington. He has been jailed since his Monday arrest and is expected to make his first court appearance later Thursday.

A Resignation Under Fire

Facing intense public and political backlash, Eichorn submitted his resignation in a letter to Democratic Governor Tim Walz.

“This is the right thing to do for his family and the Senate,” said Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson (R), who had initially refrained from calling for Eichorn’s resignation but later acknowledged the overwhelming pressure. “We are ready to move on and do the important work that needs to be done at the Capitol.”

The Sting: What Led to Eichorn’s Arrest

According to court documents, law enforcement officials posted fake online advertisements offering sex for money. Eichorn, believing he was communicating with a 17-year-old girl, exchanged text messages for several days before arranging an in-person meet-up. He was immediately arrested at the scene.

In messages retrieved from the investigation, Eichorn reportedly asked, “I saw your post. Any chance you are still available tonight?” In a later exchange, he wrote, “What’s a guy gota do to get with the hottest girl online tonight?”

When arrested, Eichorn was in possession of two cell phones, a condom, and $129 in cash—items prosecutors say were clear evidence of his intent.

Federal Charges and Legal Fallout

Eichorn now faces a federal charge of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor for prostitution, a serious offense carrying severe penalties. The operation also led to the arrest of six other individuals, according to authorities. Investigators have not ruled out further charges.

Despite the gravity of the charges, Eichorn has not yet issued a public statement. His legal representation remains unclear, as court records do not list an attorney on his behalf.

A Career Crumbles

A once-rising figure in Minnesota Republican politics, Eichorn was first elected in 2016 and had positioned himself as an advocate for small businesses and conservative family values. His Senate profile paints a picture of a devoted family man—married with four children—making the allegations even more jarring.

Democrats and activists have called for a deeper investigation into Republican officials in Minnesota, questioning whether Eichorn’s actions are symptomatic of a broader issue within the party.

“This isn’t just about one man,” said Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn (D). “This is about a culture of hypocrisy where so-called ‘family values’ conservatives turn out to be the very people engaging in the worst kinds of exploitation.”

Political Fallout and Public Reaction

The scandal has sent shockwaves through Minnesota politics, particularly among Republicans already struggling with credibility issues after years of Trump-era scandals and ethics controversies. Some have condemned Eichorn’s actions, while others have remained silent, seemingly hoping the controversy will fade.

For many Minnesota voters, however, this latest scandal is yet another reminder of the growing disconnect between GOP rhetoric and reality.

“What’s most disturbing is that these are the same people lecturing us about morality,” said Lisa Carter, a Minneapolis resident and political activist. “And yet, here we are again.”

What Happens Next?

With Eichorn’s resignation effective immediately, the race is now on to fill his seat. The Democratic Party is expected to push hard to flip the district in upcoming elections, further complicating Republican efforts to maintain their influence in the state legislature.

As for Eichorn, his political career is almost certainly over. Now, the real battle begins in the courtroom.

    1. I’m thinking release the sicko into prison’s ‘General Population’ once indicted, tried, convicted, and then sentenced.
      Life expectancy-one week maybe.

    1. ‘Anonymous’ coupled with the word ‘source’. Isn’t that the Democrat’s catchall for everything such as fictitious media stories and headlines, the latest being a Wall Street Journal/N.Y Times front page lie stating that Elon Musk will be sitting in on highly classified Pentagon briefings regarding China?
Anonymous is a cop-out, if you’re old enough the remember the meaning of that.
