Tiger Woods is facing another setback, this time a left Achilles injury that could sideline him from the Masters.
The 15-time major champion, who skipped this week’s Players Championship, announced Tuesday that he suffered the injury and has already undergone surgery.
There’s no timeline for his return.
“As I began ramping up my training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was later diagnosed as a rupture,” Woods shared on social media.
Dr. Charlton Stucken of the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach performed what Woods described as a “minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair.” Stucken expressed confidence in Woods’ recovery, stating, “We expect a full recovery.”
For now, Woods says he’s focused on rehab at home in Florida.
This isn’t his first Achilles issue—back in 2008, he tore his right Achilles before undergoing reconstructive knee surgery.
Woods hasn’t played an official tournament since missing the cut at last year’s British Open. After back surgery in September, he made a brief return in December at the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie.
He was expected to compete at last month’s Genesis Invitational but withdrew at the start of tournament week. More recently, he participated in the TGL indoor league and played in the Seminole Pro-Member event on February 24.
However, following his TGL match on March 4, Woods hinted that he wasn’t ready to return to serious competition. His mother, Kultida, passed away on February 4, and when asked if he was preparing for the Masters, his response was telling.
“Not really,” he admitted. “This is only the third time I’ve touched a club since my mom passed, so I haven’t really gotten into it. My heart is not into practicing right now. I’ve had so many other things to do with the Tour and other commitments.
“Once I start feeling a little better and getting back into it, I’ll look at the schedule.”
