In a shocking revelation, Lyssa Chapman, daughter of reality TV star Duane “Dog” Chapman, has publicly shared disturbing claims about her past.
In a recent interview, Lyssa accused her father of raping her at the age of 11—a claim she later retracted, though she maintains that something deeply traumatic happened during her childhood.
A Troubled Past Comes to Light
Lyssa, now 37, is one of Dog Chapman’s twelve children and has been a familiar face in the reality TV world, having appeared in several of her father’s hit shows, including Dog the Bounty Hunter. Despite their on-screen camaraderie, Lyssa’s personal life has been anything but glamorous.
In her memoir Walking on Eggshells, she recounts a harrowing childhood marked by instability, substance abuse, and family turmoil. “I got pregnant at 14. I gave birth the day after my 15th birthday,” she told Fox News. “Right after I had the baby, my mom moved with her boyfriend. At one point, it was just me and my daughter, and I was coming up with $500 rent every month by babysitting.”
During this tumultuous time, Lyssa initially accused her father of sexual assault, an allegation that sent shockwaves through the Chapman family. However, she later recanted, clarifying, “I [falsely] accused my father of raping me when I was 11. I had been molested by a friend of his. It was a horrible life that I never wanted to go back to—living with him and Beth, the fighting, the drugs. When I got to my mother’s, although she drank, it was much more peaceful.”
A Strained Relationship and the Search for Healing
The fallout from Lyssa’s accusations left deep scars in the Chapman family. “Because of my accusations against him, I really felt he thought I was a threat,” she admitted. “Everything he had built—he didn’t want me to hurt it. I had pretty much broken the cardinal rule as far as the Chapman family went, and I was written off.”
Despite years of estrangement, Lyssa and her father have since reconnected, though their relationship remains complex. “I have a great relationship with my dad, as healthy as we can be. I love him with all of my heart. I have my challenges with his wife, but I love my family.”
She also acknowledged her father’s struggles with addiction, saying, “I feel like, at the time, he did the best he could do. He was really addicted to drugs and couldn’t get off them. He was doing the best he could at the time. Being a parent and struggling with drugs myself, I now understand that sometimes young children get caught in the middle of their parents’ problems.”
