In a swift return to private life, Doug Emhoff, husband of former Vice President Kamala Harris, has joined the prestigious law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP as a partner. This move comes just days after leaving Washington, D.C., following his wife’s unsuccessful presidential campaign against Donald Trump.

Willkie Farr & Gallagher, a global firm with over 1,200 attorneys, announced Emhoff’s appointment on Monday. The firm lauded Emhoff for his “more than three decades of experience as a litigator, trial lawyer, and advisor to global business leaders.” According to the firm’s chairman, Thomas Cerabino, Emhoff’s addition marks “a transformative period of growth” for the firm.

Emhoff expressed enthusiasm about the new role, saying, “I am delighted to join a team of innovative legal minds. I look forward to applying my experience to help clients navigate complex and high-stakes challenges.”

The former second gentleman’s practice will center on advising corporations, boards, and individuals on sensitive investigations, international litigation, and issues with significant reputational risks. Emhoff’s work will span industries such as entertainment, media, technology, and sports.

Notably, he will split his time between Los Angeles and New York while continuing his adjunct professorship at Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches entertainment law. This dual focus underscores his longstanding connections to both the legal and academic worlds.

While Emhoff transitions back to private practice, his public service legacy remains evident. Before leaving office, President Joe Biden appointed him to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Board of Trustees. This appointment reflects Emhoff’s commitment to combating antisemitism—a cause he championed during his tenure as second gentleman.

Emhoff’s global role extended to representing the United States at key events such as the 2024 Paris Olympics and the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. Reflecting on these experiences, Emhoff remarked, “Representing our country on the world stage was a privilege I will always cherish.”

Before stepping into the national spotlight, Emhoff built a successful career at DLA Piper, one of the country’s largest law firms. He left the firm in 2020 when Harris became Joe Biden’s running mate. His legal portfolio includes representing high-profile clients like Merck, Walmart, and entertainment figures such as the creators of the film American Made.

Emhoff’s close ties to Hollywood and the legal community played a pivotal role in fundraising for Harris’ presidential campaigns. His events often drew major donors from the entertainment and corporate sectors, cementing his reputation as a skilled networker and advocate.

Though Emhoff has returned to private life, political commentators speculate he may remain a behind-the-scenes figure in Democratic circles. His ability to bridge the worlds of law, business, and public service positions him as a valuable ally in shaping liberal policies.

As Emhoff settles into his new role, the broader public will likely watch how his blend of legal expertise and public service continues to influence both corporate and political arenas.

There’s no such thing as antisemitism … not all semites are Jews… also, it’s normal to be against mental illnesses…
