In a striking farewell address, President Joe Biden chose not to dwell on his achievements but instead issued a dire warning to Americans. From the Oval Office, he highlighted emerging threats he believes could endanger democracy, calling for vigilance in the years ahead.

Biden likened his message to President Dwight Eisenhower’s famous 1961 address. Back then, Eisenhower warned of the “military-industrial complex,” cautioning Americans about unchecked power within the defense industry. Biden’s focus, however, was on what he termed the “tech industrial complex.”

“Six decades later,” Biden said, “I’m equally concerned about the rise of a new kind of concentrated power—one that controls information, shapes opinions, and erodes trust in truth itself.”

He added, “Americans are buried under an avalanche of misinformation. Social media has abandoned fact-checking. Artificial intelligence, the most consequential technology of our time, is now being weaponized for profit and power.”

Biden underscored his enduring belief in America’s democratic institutions. “The presidency, Congress, the judiciary, and a free press are the cornerstones of our Republic,” he said. “We must respect these institutions, for they are the bedrock of our freedoms.”

Reflecting on his presidency, he noted, “For four years, I’ve worked to be a president for all Americans. Our democracy has held strong, but the challenges ahead demand unity.”

Biden expressed concern over a growing concentration of wealth and influence. “Today, an oligarchy is forming,” he warned. “A handful of ultra-wealthy individuals wield immense power, threatening fairness, freedoms, and the future of our democracy.”

Drawing historical parallels, he said, “More than a century ago, Americans stood up to the robber barons. We must do the same now.”

In a rare moment of bipartisanship, Biden praised cooperation with the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump during recent negotiations. Hours before his address, Biden announced a U.S.-brokered ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas.

“This agreement was developed by my team, but its success depends on the next administration,” he said. “That’s why we worked together—because America comes first.”

Biden’s final Oval Office speech marked the end of a public career spanning five decades. He used the moment to propose bold changes, including Supreme Court term limits of 18 years and constitutional amendments ensuring no president is immune from prosecution while in office.

“These ideas may not pass tomorrow,” he admitted, “but they’re essential for safeguarding our Republic.”

On foreign policy, Biden celebrated NATO’s strength, Ukraine’s resilience, and America’s edge over China in technology. “AI must be led by America, not Beijing,” he emphasized.

Domestically, he touted bipartisan gun reforms, support for veterans exposed to toxins, and job-creating initiatives. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” he said.

Surrounded by family and reflecting on his legacy, Biden closed with a heartfelt plea: “America, it’s your turn to stand guard. Keep the faith. God bless you, and may God protect our troops.”

Biden’s farewell tour continues Thursday with a Pentagon ceremony, capping a lifetime of service to the nation.
