Elon Musk has found himself at the epicenter of a social media firestorm after wading into the controversial debate over H1B visas.

The tech billionaire’s explosive comments have sparked backlash from MAGA supporters and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, turning the conversation into a full-blown spectacle.

The controversy began Friday when Musk liked a contentious post that described Americans as “too retarded” to fill high-level tech jobs and suggested these roles should go to “better-educated” immigrants. Critics interpreted Musk’s engagement as an endorsement of the sentiment, igniting outrage among his detractors.

Steven Mackey, an X user and vocal critic of the H1B program, responded with a clip of Musk discussing SpaceX’s reusable rocket design in 2021. In the video, Musk says, “Everyone’s basically—without knowing it—they’ve got a mental straight jacket on.” Mackey repurposed the quote to argue that H1B visas might be “something that shouldn’t exist.”

Musk wasted no time firing back. “The reason I’m in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla, and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B,” Musk retorted.

Then came the bombshell: “Take a big step back and F*** YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend.”

Steve Bannon seized the opportunity to criticize Musk. On Gettr, the former Trump strategist wrote, “Someone please notify ‘Child Protective Services’—need to do a ‘wellness check’ on this toddler.” The quip added fuel to the already blazing controversy.

Mackey, the original target of Musk’s ire, clarified his stance. “I’m fine with reforming H1B, and I’m incredibly grateful you and others are in the country because of it. But it’s appropriate to be critical of a program so obviously filled with abuse.” Despite Musk’s harsh words, Mackey later said, “I’m the biggest fan of Elon on the planet and always will be.”

Other commentators were less forgiving. One user wrote, “Elon, how are we supposed to trust you with defense contracts when you publicly threaten millions of Americans? This is way scary, dude.” Another added, “You have too much power to behave in Demon Mode. It’s terrifying. You could space laser us, or something.”

Adding a surreal twist, Musk’s own AI, Grok, was asked whether Musk himself had benefited from the H1B program. Grok’s response? “No, Elon Musk was not an H1B visa worker. He moved to the U.S. on an F-1 visa for education and later became a U.S. citizen.”

This isn’t the first time Musk has clashed with MAGA supporters. Earlier this week, Musk and DOGE co-head Vivek Ramaswamy drew criticism for comments perceived as dismissive of American culture. “American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long,” Ramaswamy wrote on X. “A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math Olympiad champ will not produce the best engineers.”

The fallout has been swift. Some MAGA influencers, including Laura Loomer, reported losing their blue checks on X after criticizing Musk. Loomer accused him of “restricting free speech” on his platform.

As the debate rages on, Musk shows no signs of backing down. Whether this “war” he’s promised will materialize remains to be seen. For now, the tech titan’s comments have cemented his position as one of the most polarizing figures in the ongoing culture wars.

  1. As an immigrant myself who has done well, I regretfully agree with Musk on this issue. The average American has become fat , lazy and dumb after many years of hegemony. Most of this country was build by immigrants….
