Madman Plots to Kill Florida Congressman Jared Moskowitz

A chilling arrest has shaken Florida’s 23rd District. Authorities apprehended a man in what law enforcement describes as a potential plot to assassinate U.S. Representative Jared Moskowitz. The suspect, found armed and carrying a manifesto filled with antisemitic rhetoric, was arrested last Saturday not far from the congressman’s home.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat known for his outspoken views and fierce advocacy, disclosed the alarming details on X (formerly Twitter). “A man carrying a rifle, suppressor, body armor, and a manifesto with my name on a target list was arrested,” Moskowitz wrote. “The threat to elected officials remains real.”

Police in Margate confirmed the arrest of 41-year-old Johnathan Lapinski. According to officials, Lapinski, a convicted felon, now faces charges of firearm possession and other gun-related offenses. His disturbing arsenal reportedly included a rifle and suppressor—gear that suggests intent beyond mere possession.

The congressman, who was appointed to the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump, expressed grave concerns about security vulnerabilities for U.S. lawmakers. “While we emphasize protecting our nation’s highest offices, I am deeply worried about Congressional member security and the significant lack thereof when we are in district,” Moskowitz stressed.

This incident comes as the U.S. grapples with a rising tide of political violence and threats. Just last year, the FBI recorded a significant increase in such cases, sparking national debate about political rhetoric and its consequences. High-profile cases, like the 2017 shooting of GOP Rep. Steve Scalise during a baseball practice in Washington, D.C., have underscored the growing danger.

James Hodgkinson, the 66-year-old gunman who targeted Scalise, fired over 50 rounds before being killed by police. That attack left the congressman critically injured and ignited calls for enhanced protection of lawmakers.
