In a Halloween spectacle for the books, President Joe Biden, 81, took playful interactions to a new level, playfully biting tiny trick-or-treaters at the White House Halloween bash on Wednesday night.
Dressed-up toddlers and infants became part of an unusual presidential moment, with one standout interaction involving a baby in a chicken costume.
When Biden leaned in and pretended to nibble on the baby’s thigh, the child burst into giggles. And, in a surreal touch, the “Jaws” theme music kicked in, amplifying the moment. Video of the celebration shows the baby’s mother smiling and chatting with Biden afterward, seemingly unfazed by the playful chomp.
Meanwhile, in a contrasting Halloween-themed scene, Biden’s rival, former President Donald Trump, made headlines of his own. Trump sat atop a garbage truck, donning an orange safety vest as he addressed supporters in Wisconsin, just days before a head-to-head with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Right-wing commentator Nick Sorter weighed in on social media, capturing the peculiar juxtaposition: “President Trump is mingling with garbagemen at his rally in Wisconsin,” he posted. “Meanwhile, Joe Biden is literally BITING BABIES at the White House Halloween Party. WTF IS THIS TIMELINE?”
This isn’t the first time Biden’s playful side has stirred reactions. As he also nibbled on a baby’s arm and playfully bit another’s foot, social media lit up with commentary. “Remember when Joe Biden’s dog Major bit people at the White House at least 24 times?” one user quipped, referencing the family’s German Shepherd with a history of biting staff. “Maybe he learned it from his owner.”
The White House has hosted trick-or-treaters every Halloween, but as Biden’s last Halloween in office approaches, the antics are more notable than ever. With ongoing scrutiny about his mental acuity and occasional awkward moments, Biden continues to make headlines for his unconventional style.
As Steve Krakauer from “The Megyn Kelly Show” tweeted, “Joe Biden bites a baby… And 2024 is complete.”
