Whoopi Goldberg Says Trump Isn’t Welcome on ‘The View’

Whoopi Goldberg has made it clear: Donald Trump won’t be making a comeback on The View anytime soon.

During Thursday’s episode, Goldberg remarked that having Trump back on the show would not be “advantageous” for its audience, and she humorously dismissed the idea of a meaningful exchange with him. “It would be nothing but, ‘And you’re a bonehead. And you’re a bonehead,’” Goldberg quipped to guest Hasan Minhaj, adding, “What do you think about this? And then he starts talking about his toenails.”

This isn’t the first time Goldberg and Trump have clashed. Their tense relationship spans more than a decade and has deepened since Trump’s political ascent. Goldberg, a long-time host on The View, has consistently used her platform to question Trump’s policies and rhetoric.

Trump, on the other hand, has targeted the hosts of The View—particularly Goldberg—with scathing criticism. Earlier this month, he took to his Truth Social platform to lambaste the show’s hosts, labeling them “degenerates” and “dumb women.” For Goldberg and her co-hosts, it was just the latest barb in what has become a deeply personal and highly public feud.

The conflict between Trump and Goldberg dates back to Trump’s years as a businessman and reality television star. The tension really escalated when Trump became involved in a high-profile feud with The View‘s former host Rosie O’Donnell in the mid-2000s.

Goldberg, who joined The View in 2007, publicly supported her co-host and often voiced her disdain for Trump’s handling of that clash. Trump’s regular appearances on The View stopped around the time he launched his presidential bid, with both sides increasingly unwilling to bridge their differences. Over the years, Goldberg became one of Trump’s most outspoken celebrity critics, calling him out on issues ranging from immigration to his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In fact, the tension between The View and Trump only grew more combative as Trump’s presidency went on. Goldberg’s sharp rebukes of Trump’s policies often went viral, and Trump frequently responded with his own insults. While The View prides itself on a diversity of viewpoints, Goldberg has maintained that some lines cannot be crossed on the show, and Trump’s incendiary comments have put him squarely on the other side of that line.

Goldberg isn’t alone in her stance. Sunny Hostin, another long-standing co-host, also pushed back at the idea of welcoming Trump back on The View. When Minhaj jokingly suggested the idea of Trump returning, Hostin flat-out declined. Sara Haines joined in with a pointed jab at the former president, adding, “If he can’t handle debating one woman, how would he handle four?” referring to Trump’s repeated avoidance of debating women like Vice President Kamala Harris.

Despite his absence, Trump remains a frequent topic on The View, with the hosts regularly critiquing his political moves, statements, and social media rants. Though the show welcomes a wide range of guests, Goldberg and her co-hosts appear to draw the line at Trump, keeping their distance from the former president while continuing to critique his ongoing political influence.

While The View remains one of daytime television’s most popular programs, Trump’s attacks on the show and its hosts have only intensified over time. His recent remark at the Al Smith charity dinner took a jab at The View‘s ratings, suggesting that the show is struggling.

Ironically, the talk show continues to maintain high viewership numbers, even with Trump out of the picture. Goldberg’s recent comments make it clear that despite Trump’s longstanding presence in American media, he won’t be invited back to The View’s stage anytime soon.

Though The View has tackled diverse political perspectives, it seems the show—and its hosts—draw the line at Trump.
