King Charles III shared heartfelt memories of Queen Elizabeth II’s final days during a speech at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, just as Prince Harry prepares to make a public appearance at the WellChild Awards in London. This charity event is notably where Harry was in the U.K. when the Queen passed away in 2022.

The public will be watching closely to see if Harry reconnects with his family during this visit, particularly with King Charles and his brother, Prince William. However, Charles is currently in Scotland, which makes a meeting with Harry less likely unless he returns to London in time.

“Scotland has always had a uniquely special place in the hearts of my family and myself,” Charles remarked. “My beloved grandmother was proudly Scottish. My late mother especially treasured the time spent at Balmoral, and it was there, in the most beloved of places, where she chose to spend her final days.”

Following a meeting with the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit on September 20, the King remained in Scotland, attending church services with Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Kate.

Charles is scheduled to return to London by Wednesday for a reception at St. James’s Palace celebrating the Commonwealth diaspora, alongside notable guests like actress Cate Blanchett and singer Grace Jones. However, with Harry also planning trips to South Africa and Lesotho shortly after his appearance in London, the chances of the two meeting remain uncertain.

If father and son do not meet during this trip, it could raise further questions about their relationship, suggesting that tensions may be higher than previously thought.

Prince Harry’s previous visits to the U.K. have been marked by missed opportunities for family meetings. In February, after Charles was diagnosed with cancer, their encounter lasted only about half an hour before the King left for Sandringham. Harry returned in May for the Invictus Games but reported that Charles was unavailable to meet, expressing hope for a future visit.

Their last interactions also included Harry’s attendance at a funeral in August for Sir Robert Fellowes, where it was reported that the brothers did not speak, although this has not been officially confirmed.

As Harry navigates his third trip to the U.K. without a clear meeting with his father or brother, the public will be left to speculate on the state of their relationship.
