Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey of 2,500 registered voters, conducted exclusively for Newsweek, found that 60 percent believe that Hunter Biden should be handed a custodial sentence following the guilty verdict against him. A total of 57 percent who previously voted for his father also believe Hunter Biden should be imprisoned.

Just over one in five voters (21 percent) believe Hunter Biden should not serve prison time when he is sentenced, with slightly fewer (19 percent) saying they don’t know.

Hunter Biden was found guilty by a Delaware jury in June of illegally buying a gun while using drugs, specifically crack cocaine, and lying on a government form about his drug use when he made the purchase in May 2018.

He faces up to a maximum 25 years in jail when he is sentenced at a date no later than October 9.

Hunter Biden, who has become the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a crime, denied the charges. He claimed he was not an active drug user at the time he purchased the firearm as he had recently undergone a stint of rehab.

Legal experts have suggested that Hunter Biden may not receive a custodial sentence due to federal guidelines and the nature of the crime.

David Bredin, who runs the Bredin Law Firm in New York, previously suggested Hunter Biden may only end up spending around year in prison.

“Factoring in good behavior, he will be released early as he has no criminal history, and other guidelines are taken into account,” Bredin told Newsweek.

The president’s son is also set to go on trial in California in September over allegations he failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019.

Hunter Biden’s legal team has been contacted for comment via email.

The federal gun trial took place after months of Donald Trump accusing the president of having “weaponized” the Department of Justice against the Republican in order to hinder his chances of beating Biden in November.

Trump is facing 44 federal charges in the classified documents and 2020 election obstruction investigations, although it is increasingly likely he will not stand trial to face the charges before November.

The poll was conducted prior to the Supreme Court landmark ruling that Trump is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution in the federal 2020 election if his actions can be found to be considered “official acts” carried out in office.

The Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll found that a majority (58 percent) of voters agree that the U.S. justice system is currently being “abused” for political purposes. This includes 53 percent of those who voted for Biden in 2020.

Trump became the first U.S. president in history to be convicted of a crime after a New York jury found him guilty of 34 falsifying business records charges on May 30.

Trump denied any wrongdoing and accused the investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office of being a politically motivated “witch hunt” that aimed to stop him from winning the 2024 election.

The Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll found that 34 percent of Americans say Trump’s hush money conviction makes them more likely to vote for him in November, compared to 29 percent who say it makes them less likely to do so.

A total of 31 percent said Trump’s conviction makes it more likely for him to win the 2024 election, while 29 percent think it makes it less likely.

The Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll sampled 2,500 registered voters between June 26-28. The results have a margin of error of plus or minus 1.96 percentage points.

  1. I’ll take bets right now that no Biden held accountable or another democrat for corruption but they want President Trump out of way to finish communist Obama fourth and forever term to coverup all corruption in all government and beyond. Obama not only weaponized our government but he broke law after laws like Biden and Clinton’s and bush’s and not a word about that right? But punish the one man that we love and actually worked for us. We have watched from eight years of President Trump being framed for democrats crimes and you all believe democrats are above the law. No like democrats have been saying for eight years no one is above the law and President Trump will be vindicated over and over for years to come.

  2. Yeah the D 🐀fascists want Hunter in jail so that the cadaver can pardon him before he gets kicked out of office !!!
