In a strange and regrettable turn of events, Michael Gardner, a grandpa from Texas, was unintentionally shot and injured while officiating a wedding in Nebraska. As a result, he was faced with legal repercussions. In an attempt to attract guests’ attention, Gardner, 62, fired a Pietta 1860 snub nose revolver into the air at Hillside Events in Denton, Nebraska.
Ben Houchin, chief deputy of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, reports that the gun fired a blank round with black powder that was fused together within the casing at approximately five o’clock in the evening. The little child was hit by an inadvertent bullet in the shoulder, resulting in a non-fatal injury that needed to be hospitalized.
The ceremony had already been delayed because one of the wedding bands had been forgotten, so attendees were dispersed throughout the site when the unfortunate gunshot occurred. Gardner tried to cock back the revolver’s hammer, but it slid, causing the unintentional discharge.
At a Monday press conference, Houchin clarified, “What we believe is the glue injured the child,” providing insight into the type of injury brought on by the black powder that was fused together.
Gardner was accused of child abuse despite the incident’s inadvertent nature because of his carelessness and the harm it caused to his grandchild. On Monday, he willingly turned himself in to the police so that he could face the charges.
Houchin stressed the carelessness of firing a blank-loaded gun in a crowded area even if he pointed out that there was no sign of malice. “Showing off a blank-chambered gun and shooting people is just kind of careless,” he said.
The event should serve as a reminder of the possible risks associated with carrying a firearm in public, even if the goal is to create a festive mood. As the case progresses, concerns regarding gun ownership responsibility—particularly with regard to minors and public gatherings—become more apparent.

Of all the stupid ways you can hurt somebody with a gun…..
Do Texans have to do everything with a gun and cow horns?
I hope he goes to jail, anyone who harms a child should be punished.
This is confusing. The headline says he shot grandson, but the story seems to say he shot himself. It said he fired his gun into the air, so did the bullet from that hit the kid some distance away?
