A close-knit community in Stamford, Connecticut, is grieving the shocking loss of a cherished pastor, the Reverend Tommie Jackson, who was killed on Wednesday after being hit by a police car.

In particular, the police department, where Jackson served as an advisor and his wife, Dorye Jackson, is a commissioner, has been affected by the occurrence.

Rev. Jackson, 69, had just stopped at his mailbox when the tragic tragedy happened at 4:12 p.m. Jackson’s car crashed with the patrol cruiser being driven by Stamford Officer Zachary Lockwood, 24, severely injuring him. Jackson passed away from his wounds at Stamford Hospital despite Lockwood’s attempts at CPR.

Lockwood is on administrative leave as the Connecticut State Police look into the terrible occurrence. Initial accounts indicate that Lockwood tried to steer away when he saw Jackson, but the circumstances leading up to the crash are still being investigated.

While serving as a pastor at Faith Tabernacle Church and Rehoboth Fellowship Church, Rev. Jackson was not just a respected religious figure but also a cornerstone of the community. He also served as the Urban Redevelopment Commission’s assistant director, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to public service and the welfare of the neighborhood.

Caroline Simmons, the mayor of Stamford, expressed her deep sorrow over the passing of Rev. Jackson, whom she referred to as a “larger-than-life presence” in the community.

He had devoted decades of his life to serving the community, creating a lasting impression on everyone he came in contact with. He was praised by Simmons as a pillar of light for Stamford citizens, offering direction, assistance, and consolation to many people over the years.

Jackson’s wife, Dorye Jackson, is a commissioner for the Stamford Police Department, which makes the tragedy all the more tragic. The already tragic scenario is made even worse by their association with the local police department.

The Stamford Police Department’s Assistant Chief Silas Redd sent his condolences and described Rev. Jackson as a beloved friend and mentor to many officers. The department is saddened by the death of this exceptional person and recognizes how difficult it will be to fill the vacuum left by his premature passing.

The Stamford community comes together to celebrate Rev. Tommie Jackson’s life and legacy while the inquiry is still ongoing. His commitment to service and faith left a lasting impression on the community, and he will be cherished as a symbol of love and hope for many years to come.

The Jackson family, Officer Lockwood, and everyone else affected by this awful incident are in the thoughts and prayers of the entire community during these tough times.
