A man has been charged with murder after his mother’s body was found inside a trash bag, according to police.
Canadian police said officers responded to a call after a bystander found human remains in a trash bag on the sidewalk of Eastern Avenue and Berkshire Avenue in Toronto at about 1:30 p.m. on March 28.
In a Facebook statement, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) said the woman was identified as Tien Ly, 46, and added that she showed signs of “trauma to the body, including some dismemberment.”
Investigators had asked the public for help in locating Ly’s son Dallas, 20, over concern for his well-being, and in an April 3 update, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) said officers believed Dallas had been responsible for his mother’s death.
Dallas was subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder. He appeared in court virtually at the Old City Hall on Sunday.

According to the TPS, there were 85 homicides in Toronto in 2021, a notable increase from 2020, when 71 homicides were recorded. Police said 45 of the 85 homicides were the result of shooting offenses, while 16 victims were stabbed.
Earlier this year, a man’s remains were found in some trash inside an abandoned business in Michigan.
The man, originally from Florida, was wrapped in duct tape and frozen inside Detroit’s West Side on Thursday, January 20.
Detroit Police Department Lt. Robert Lalone told Fox2: “We had a scout car respond, then ultimately homicide responded and unfortunately it was human remains.
“So, he’s wrapped up in a blanket and dropped off in the inside of the interior of a vacant business.”
The man wrapped in the blanket was later identified as Steven Shelby, 41, who had recently moved to Detroit and his last address was in Florida.
In another case, a decomposed body was found under a mobile home last month by a man doing plumbing work in Pennsylvania.
After the man’s partner reported the finding, Ohioville Police Department officers said they responded to the home on Midland Road at about midday on Thursday, March, 17.
