A routine ambulance ride to a Cleveland hospital took a shocking turn when the driver allegedly got lost, announced he was finished working for the day, and abandoned a woman suffering from chest pain before calling himself an Uber home.

The bizarre incident unfolded around 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, as a 50-year-old woman was being transported to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. According to local reports, the driver became lost near West 150th Street and, rather than completing the trip, reportedly told the patient he was “done driving for the day.” He then left the ambulance and took an Uber home, leaving the woman stranded before she could reach the hospital.

The driver worked for Lynx EMS, a private ambulance company. Fortunately, another crew member was still aboard and is believed to have called 911 for assistance. Cleveland EMS paramedics responded near a gas station, evaluated the woman and transported her to Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. Officials confirmed she was stable when rescuers arrived and remained stable throughout the remainder of her journey.

As the incident gained attention online, the Cleveland Association of Rescue Employees, Local 1975, issued a statement emphasizing that the driver did not work for the city’s emergency medical services.

“We want to clarify it was NOT a Cleveland EMS ambulance, but rather a provider working on a private ambulance,” the union explained, adding that Cleveland EMS personnel stepped in to provide care and complete the hospital transport.

Lynx EMS has since acknowledged the incident and launched an internal review. A company spokesperson said immediate steps were taken to address the situation and ensure the patient’s medical needs were met.

“We are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and will take appropriate action based on the findings of that review,” the company stated.

The driver’s identity has not been publicly disclosed, and Lynx EMS has not confirmed whether he remains employed. What prompted him to abandon the trip remains unclear, leaving unanswered questions about how a woman seeking hospital treatment ended up needing a second ambulance to finish a journey that was already underway.

  1. If he had done that to my wife there’s no place he could hide…I would leave scars just to remind him in his later years.
