Trump Says Melania Can’t Stand His Behavior

President Donald Trump has once again admitted that his wife, Melania Trump, is not exactly his biggest fan when it comes to his over-the-top behavior onstage.

While addressing supporters in Las Vegas on Wednesday, August 5, Trump brought up the first lady’s apparent frustration with some of his most famous campaign routines — including his signature dancing and his dramatic impersonation of a weightlifter.

According to Trump, Melania believes the performances are anything but presidential.

“She hates it when I imitate no men in women’s sports,” Trump told the crowd before launching into the weightlifting routine once again.

“She said it’s not presidential,” he continued. “I said, ‘Well, it may not be presidential, but I won the election in a landslide, so I don’t know.’”

The routine has become a familiar part of Trump’s speeches.

While discussing transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, the president often acts out a female weightlifter struggling to lift a heavy barbell. His performance typically includes exaggerated facial expressions, strained movements and loud groaning noises.

Earlier this summer, Trump performed the same act while speaking to workers at a Mack Trucks manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania.

He described a young female athlete attempting to qualify for the Olympics as her proud parents watched from the audience.

“The father’s not so proud because he knows she’s not going to do it,” Trump said. “Because she’s a woman. It’s a lot of weight.”

Trump then repeatedly groaned and pretended to strain under the weight of an imaginary barbell.

The president has used the routine several times over the years, including during speeches in 2022 and 2023. He has also performed it multiple times this year — despite claiming that Melania has begged him to stop.

“My wife hates when I do this,” Trump said during the House GOP Member Retreat in January. “She’s a very classy person.”

Trump then recalled Melania allegedly telling him, “Darling, please, the weightlifting is terrible.”

But the weightlifting performance is apparently not the only Trump routine that makes the first lady cringe.

Trump has also admitted that Melania dislikes his famous dance moves, which often involve him pumping his fists and swaying to the Village People’s 1978 hit “YMCA.”

“She hates when I dance,” Trump said in January. “She actually said, ‘Can you imagine FDR dancing?’”

Months later, Trump again told supporters that Melania was not impressed by his moves.

“I dance to what’s sometimes referred to as ‘the gay national anthem,’” he said of “YMCA.” “We love that song!”

Trump’s latest comments come as rumors continue to swirl about the state of his marriage.

The president and first lady, who married in 2005, have repeatedly faced claims that they live largely separate lives and even sleep in different bedrooms. Neither has publicly confirmed those reports.

Author Michael Wolff has also claimed the couple’s sharply different decorating tastes offer a glimpse into their contrasting personalities.

“Trump’s space in Trump Tower is gilded and ornate — Trump kitsch,” Wolff wrote on Substack. “Melania’s is spare, sleek, beige. Parallel lives.”

Trump added fuel to the speculation during a public ceremony in April when he joked that his marriage to Melania would never last as long as his parents’ 63-year union.

Speaking about his parents, Fred and Mary Anne Trump, the president said, “They were married for 63 years.”

He then turned toward Melania and joked, “Excuse me, if you don’t mind, that’s a record we won’t be able to match, darling. I’m sorry. It’s just not going to work out that way.”

Melania appeared to force a smile following the comment.

One day later, the first lady was also seen appearing to brush off an attempt at public affection from her husband — a moment that quickly sparked even more chatter about the couple’s relationship.

Still, Trump seems perfectly comfortable sharing Melania’s private criticism with his supporters.

And despite her reported objections, the president does not appear ready to retire either the dancing or the groaning weightlifter routine anytime soon.
