Trump Sparks Backlash for Having Young Aide with Him ’24/7 Instead of Wife Melania’

Donald Trump is facing fresh online backlash after critics noticed that one of his closest young aides, Natalie Harp, appears to be by his side constantly — while First Lady Melania Trump is nowhere to be seen.

Harp, 34, has worked for Trump since 2022 and has become a familiar presence at his events, meetings, travel stops and public appearances. But her repeated appearances alongside the 80-year-old president are now fueling growing chatter online, with critics asking why she seems to be with him far more often than his own wife.

The latest round of scrutiny erupted after Harp was spotted accompanying Trump to the funeral of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham at Washington National Cathedral earlier this month.

Melania, who has been married to Trump since January 2005, did not attend the memorial service with him. Instead, Harp was seen getting into a vehicle with the president as he headed to the solemn event.

That was not the only recent appearance that raised eyebrows.

Harp was also seen with Trump during the dignified transfer of troops at Dover Air Force Base. Earlier this month, she was photographed smiling at him during a FIFA event in New York. Then, on Friday, July 31, she appeared to be with him once again as he inspected concrete work outside the White House.

For critics, it was one appearance too many.

“Not one Trump supporter asks why Natalie Harp is with Trump 24/7 instead of his wife,” one X user wrote while sharing video of the moment. “It’s just another day that ends in Y for these corrupt clowns who normalize everything that IS NOT NORMAL for this man.”

Another person took an even sharper jab, joking that Harp may be the one doing the hands-on caretaking that Melania allegedly refuses to do.

The criticism continued after Harp was reportedly seen Friday at Hagerstown Regional Airport in Maryland following Trump’s meeting at Camp David.

Harp’s near-constant presence has already become a fixation among Trump critics, with some online commenters describing the arrangement as strange, intense and uncomfortable.

On Reddit, users previously speculated that Harp seemed like “more than a work wife,” while another claimed it was “so creepy how she looks at him.” Others accused her of having a “weird obsession” with the president.

The chatter has only intensified because Harp’s devotion to Trump has reportedly been a topic of discussion inside his orbit for years.

New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan wrote about Harp in their book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, claiming that she once left adoring notes for Trump in his personal spaces.

One reported letter allegedly read, “You are all that matters to me.”

Trump also reportedly told staffers that Harp was different from the rest of his team.

“All of you will go off and make money. She’ll never leave me,” Trump allegedly said, according to the book.

Harp has also earned the nickname “The Human Printer” because she is known for carrying a battery-powered printer so Trump can receive hard copies of briefings, news stories and documents wherever he goes.

But even members of Harp’s own family have reportedly raised concerns about her relationship with Trump.

Her brother, Preston Harp, previously told the Daily Mail that his sister’s connection to Trump appeared “very unhealthy” and made her seem like part of his “fan club.”

“I don’t understand why my sister, or anyone, could want to work for Trump,” he said.

The White House has not publicly suggested there is anything inappropriate about Harp’s role, and aides often travel closely with presidents as part of their official duties.

Still, the optics are proving hard for Trump’s critics to ignore.

With Melania frequently absent from high-profile public moments and Harp repeatedly seen just steps away from the president, the online backlash is not slowing down.

For many critics, the question is no longer whether Harp is one of Trump’s most loyal aides.

It is why she seems to be everywhere he goes.
