President Donald Trump sparked a fresh wave of concern over his mental fitness after appearing to claim he had recently spoken with Theodore Roosevelt — a former president who died more than a century ago.
The 80-year-old made the eyebrow-raising remark during a speech in North Dakota, where he attended the opening of the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library.

“I even had a conversation with Theodore Roosevelt,” Trump confidently told the crowd.
Trump said he asked Roosevelt about the Panama Canal and whether he considered it his greatest achievement.
“I said, ‘What did you think about the Panama Canal? Do you consider that your greatest achievement? How do you feel about the fact that the Democrats gave the Panama Canal away to Panama for $1?’” Trump recalled.
The seemingly impossible claim quickly exploded across social media, with critics accusing the president of becoming confused or “hallucinating” during a live appearance.
“Teddy Roosevelt has been dead since 1919,” one stunned critic wrote, while another declared, “He has totally lost it.”
Others used the moment to renew questions about Trump’s age and mental sharpness as he continues serving in one of the most demanding jobs in the world.
However, the viral clips did not tell the entire story.
Trump had, in fact, held a “conversation” with an artificial intelligence-powered version of Roosevelt during his tour of the new library.
The high-tech exhibit allows visitors to speak with an interactive digital representation of the 26th president, who died in 1919 — nearly three decades before Trump was born.
White House communications adviser Margo Martin later posted footage showing Trump speaking to the AI Roosevelt inside the museum.
During the exchange, the digital Roosevelt reportedly told Trump that “the nation comes first.”
Trump responded by praising the presentation.
“Well, I appreciate those words. Those words are fantastic,” he said.
“I just want to say it was an honor to be with you today. We are taking a little bit of a tour of some of the fantastic things you’ve done.”
Trump supporters quickly accused his critics of deliberately stripping the comments of context in an effort to make the president appear confused.
“To be frank, he’s probably talking about talking to the AI Teddy at the museum,” one person wrote.
Another blasted the rush to judgment, saying critics could have discovered the truth with just a few minutes of research.
The episode still highlighted how Trump’s rambling speaking style and lack of immediate explanation can ignite instant controversy — particularly as voters and political opponents continue scrutinizing the 80-year-old president’s health and mental acuity.
In this case, Trump was not claiming to have contacted Roosevelt from beyond the grave.
He was talking about a futuristic museum exhibit — though the way he described it left millions wondering whether the president had completely lost the plot.
