A glamorous night in Washington turned into a scene of panic after gunfire erupted during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 25—forcing President Donald Trump into a sudden and chaotic evacuation.

According to reports, Secret Service agents sprang into action the moment they were alerted to a gunman on the premises. Trump, 79, was quickly pulled from his seat and rushed out of the venue. In the middle of the frantic scramble, he appeared to stumble and fall as agents escorted him to safety, underscoring just how intense the moment had become.

Attendees were left stunned as the situation unfolded in seconds.

Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and other top officials, was swiftly removed from the building as law enforcement responded to the sound of gunfire. Authorities later confirmed the suspected shooter had been apprehended.

In the aftermath, Trump took to Truth Social to praise the response from law enforcement while hinting he initially hoped the event could continue.

“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely,” he wrote. “The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we ‘LET THE SHOW GO ON’… but will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement.”

Officials ultimately decided to postpone the dinner, with plans to reschedule within the next 30 days.

Trump also confirmed he would address the public shortly after the incident.

“Law Enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol,” he wrote. “I will be giving a press conference in 30 minutes from the White House Press Briefing Room. The First Lady, plus the Vice President, and all Cabinet members, are in perfect condition.”

Meanwhile, those inside described terrifying moments as the chaos unfolded.

CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer shared that he was just feet away from the suspected gunman when the shots rang out.

“I heard gunshots… the next thing I knew, a police officer threw me to the ground,” he said. “They got the gunman. The noise was so loud… I was very close to him as the gunshots were fired. It was very, very scary.”

Blitzer added that officers rushed him and others into a nearby restroom, where about 15 people were held until authorities secured the scene.
