A surprising new poll is turning heads—and raising serious questions about shifting political loyalties—as a growing number of supporters of Donald Trump say they would support removing him from office.

According to a survey conducted by Strength in Numbers/Verasight, 55 percent of respondents said they would back impeachment if the U.S. House of Representatives voted on it. Meanwhile, 37 percent opposed the move, and 8 percent said they were unsure.

What’s really catching attention, though, is where some of that support is coming from.

The poll found that about 21 percent of Republican voters—including those who supported Trump in the 2024 election—said they would support impeaching him. While the majority of GOP voters still oppose it, the fact that roughly one in five of his own base is open to removal is raising eyebrows.

Pollster G. Elliot Morris noted that the numbers are comparable to what former President Richard Nixon faced during the height of the Watergate scandal, a moment that ultimately led to Nixon’s resignation.

On the other side of the aisle, support for impeachment is overwhelming. About 88 percent of Democratic voters said they would back removing Trump from office, compared to just 8 percent who opposed it.

The numbers come at a time when Trump has been under increasing scrutiny. Critics have pointed to his recent behavior—including late-night social media posts and controversial statements—as reasons for concern, with some even raising questions about his mental fitness.

A number of House Democrats have gone a step further, suggesting the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office, though that would require significant political support.

Adding to the pressure, some high-profile conservative voices have started to distance themselves. Figures like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly have publicly criticized Trump following recent foreign policy decisions, including military actions earlier this year.

In a particularly striking moment, Carlson even issued an apology to his audience, saying he regretted encouraging support for Trump in the last election.

“It’s… in real ways, you and me and millions of people like us are the reason this is happening right now,” he said, adding that he felt a sense of responsibility for misleading viewers—even if it wasn’t intentional.
