Brian Williams is making a surprising return to the spotlight — and this time, he’s heading to Netflix.

The veteran former NBC News and MSNBC anchor has signed on with the streaming giant to host a new weekly podcast, marking a fresh chapter for one of television news’ most recognizable faces. Netflix announced Thursday that the new show, titled We’re Back! With Brian Williams, is set to launch later this year.

According to the company, the podcast will feature Williams in longer, more relaxed conversations with major newsmakers and pop culture figures. The format appears aimed at giving audiences something more personal and less scripted than the fast, often chaotic cable news style many viewers have grown tired of.

Williams, who spent decades behind the anchor desk, leaned into the moment with a joke in his statement, saying, “With scientists predicting that every American will have a podcast by 2030, I thought it was time to get in the game.”

The move is already turning heads, especially as traditional television news continues to lose ground to streaming platforms and digital media. For progressive-leaning viewers who have watched legacy journalism get swallowed by outrage cycles, the idea of Williams returning in a looser, interview-driven format may feel like a throwback mixed with a reinvention.

Netflix has not yet revealed an official premiere date, but the announcement signals the company is continuing to push deeper into news-adjacent and conversation-based programming. And with a familiar face like Brian Williams leading the charge, this latest media shake-up could pull in viewers who still miss the days when big-name anchors actually commanded the room.
