A troubling escape from a Kentucky re-entry facility has now sparked an urgent search, raising fresh questions about oversight, public safety, and how a woman serving time for theft and substance-related offenses was able to disappear so quickly.

Kentucky State Police are asking the public for help in locating 45-year-old Angela S. Long, who escaped Friday evening, April 10, from a Dismas Charities re-entry facility in Owensboro, according to a bulletin shared Saturday morning.

Authorities said Long was last seen leaving the facility and getting into a black car before vanishing. So far, police have released few details about how the escape unfolded, leaving many unanswered questions about what happened in the moments before she got away.

Long is now being sought by officers in Henderson, Kentucky. Police described her as a white woman with long straight brown hair and blue eyes. She stands 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs around 170 pounds. At the time of her escape, she was reportedly wearing blue jeans, a light blue T-shirt, and gray sneakers.

A photo released by Kentucky State Police shows Long smiling for the camera, wearing large round eyeglasses and a graphic shirt, with her hair parted to the side.

According to police, Long had been serving a sentence connected to various theft and substance abuse-related charges. Jail records show she was convicted in Hart County in November 2024 for an offense committed in September 2023.

The case has put a spotlight on the vulnerabilities inside re-entry systems that are supposed to help people transition back into society while still maintaining accountability and security. Instead, this incident has turned into a full-scale search after a woman in custody allegedly slipped away and disappeared into a waiting vehicle.

In their April 11 bulletin, Kentucky State Police urged anyone with information about Long’s whereabouts to contact local law enforcement or KSP Post 16 at 270-826-3312. Authorities also asked the public to share the bulletin widely on social media in hopes of tracking her down quickly.

As of Sunday, April 12, additional updates had not yet been released. Both Kentucky State Police and Dismas Charities were contacted for more information.
