An old Trump White House moment is making the rounds again — and it is every bit as awkward the second time around.

During the White House Easter Egg Roll on April 17, 2017, cameras caught Melania Trump appearing to give Donald Trump a subtle nudge after the national anthem began and he failed to place his hand over his heart right away. TIME reported at the time that Melania and Barron had already made the gesture before the then-president appeared to realize what was happening and quickly followed suit. The annual event drew about 21,000 guests to the White House grounds that year.

What should have been a picture-perfect family moment instead turned into one of those painfully viral clips that refuses to die.

The Easter Egg Roll is usually one of the first lady’s biggest public-facing events, a polished White House tradition built around families, children and carefully staged photo ops. But in that instant, Melania looked less like a hostess and more like someone quietly trying to rescue an uncomfortable scene before it spiraled further.

Video from the moment shows Melania and Barron standing at attention as The Star-Spangled Banner begins. Trump, meanwhile, keeps his arms at his sides for a few beats before Melania appears to tap or nudge him, prompting him to place his hand over his chest. The clip quickly became a magnet for ridicule online, with critics treating it as another example of Trump seeming disengaged during a basic presidential ritual.

The scene unfolded during the Trumps’ first Easter Egg Roll in the White House, a high-visibility event meant to showcase the new administration in a warm, family-friendly setting. Instead, the anthem moment ended up overshadowing part of the day and gave critics fresh material they were more than happy to use.

To Trump’s defenders, the moment may have looked minor. But to many viewers, it was the kind of slip that said a lot without anyone saying a word. That is exactly why the clip still has legs nearly a decade later: it captured a flash of hesitation, a first lady forced into cleanup mode, and a president needing a reminder during one of the most symbolic moments of the ceremony.

That is what makes the resurfaced video so damaging. It is not just embarrassing — it is visual. No spin required. One quick nudge from Melania told the whole story, and the cameras never missed it.
